The new version of the classic story of A Múmia, under the direction of Lee Cronin, had its first promotional materials presented to the public. A teaser trailer and official poster have been released, signaling a distinct approach to the franchise, with a heavy emphasis on psychological horror and a complex family drama. The international premiere of the feature film is confirmed for April 17, 2026.
The production, distributed by Warner Bros., promises a dark and visceral reinterpretation of the iconic monster from Universal. The marketing campaign, which began with these first pieces, seeks to attract an audience interested in contemporary horror, moving away from the adventure tone that marked previous versions of the franchise.
The central plot follows the story of a couple of journalists who deal with the inexplicable disappearance of their daughter in the desert. The narrative advances eight years, when a plane crash results in the discovery of an ancient sarcophagus, which releases a supernatural entity and triggers a series of terrifying events.
Terrifying vision in the released materials
The film’s official poster adopts a minimalist and menacing aesthetic. The image displays an enigmatic figure, completely covered in bandages, positioned against a dark background, conveying a sense of imminent danger that hangs over the story’s protagonist family.
The teaser trailer, in turn, presents a montage of quick and impactful scenes. Sequências in the Egyptian desert are interspersed with images of disturbing bodily transformations, building an atmosphere of tension and suspense without delivering the main outcomes of the narrative.
A plot centered on loss and curse
The script deeply explores the impact of the daughter’s disappearance on the couple’s dynamics. The absence of the child over the years creates an open wound in the relationship, which becomes the focal point for the manifestation of the supernatural entity.
The turning point occurs when the mummified entity is released, drastically altering the characters’ reality. The plot addresses themes such as forced resurrection and the dark consequences of interfering with ancient and unknown forces.
The narrative combines elements of psychological suspense with the so-called “body horror”, a subgenre of horror that explores deformations and violations of the human body. Essa combination seeks to create a visceral and disturbing experience for the viewer.
Experienced cast in genre projects
For the main roles, the production selected actors with experience in suspense and horror films and series. Irish actor Jack Reynor, known for his work on “Midsommar”, plays a journalist father who must confront family tragedy.
At her side, Spanish actress Laia Costa, acclaimed for her performance in “Victoria”, takes on the role of the mother. The choice of both aims to bring realistic and emotionally charged interpretations to the extreme situation experienced by the characters.
The supporting cast also features relevant names on the international scene. Mexican actress Verónica Falcón, from series such as “Perry Mason”, participates in a role that is still kept secret, increasing the mystery surrounding the plot.
The team is completed by Egyptian-American actress May Calamawy, who gained notoriety for her participation in the series “Knight of Lua”. Sua character is directly linked to the supernatural events that unfold following the discovery of the sarcophagus.
The authorial direction of Lee Cronin
The choice of Lee Cronin to direct and write the feature film is one of the points that generates the most expectation. The Irish filmmaker is coming off a great critical and public success with “A Morte do Demônio: A Ascensão”, where he demonstrated a remarkable ability to construct oppressive atmospheres and impactful horror scenes. Sua’s vision for Múmia promises to be original, focusing on the classic monster from a more visceral and terrifying perspective, distancing itself from any shared universe previously proposed for Universal’s monsters. Cronin is known for balancing the use of practical effects with digital interventions, seeking a realism that intensifies the feeling of dread.
Filming took place in locations at Irlanda and Espanha, with the team prioritizing natural environments to provide greater authenticity to the story’s setting. One of the technical highlights of the production is the work with prosthetics and makeup, elements that were used extensively to create the mummification sequences and the physical transformations of the characters. The studio’s confidence in the director’s authorial style is evident, allowing him to create his characteristic rhythm, which alternates moments of calm and character development with sudden explosions of violence and horror.
Production unites giants of modern horror
The new film by A Múmia is a project led by two of the most influential producers in contemporary horror cinema: Blumhouse, from Jason Blum, and Ambas companies specialize in developing genre films with controlled budgets that achieve enormous box office success, such as the “Paranormal Activity”, “The Conjuring of Mal” and “Insidious” franchises. Essa strategic partnership reinforces the trend of reboots of horror classics with a darker and more independent approach. Global distribution is handled by Warner Bros. in association with New Line Cinema, consolidating a strong team behind the project. The release date, scheduled for April 17, 2026 in international markets and April 16 in Brasil, positions the film in a strategic period, aiming to attract audiences eager for releases of the genre during the spring in the northern hemisphere.
