The movement at Japanese dealerships intensified significantly after the arrival of the first units of the new update of the Serena minivan. The model, which had its official presentation in December and began physical sales in February, records a volume of inquiries higher than the automaker’s initial expectations. The vehicle, positioned as one of the main choices for large families in the archipelago, received strategic adjustments to face fierce competition in the medium commercial vehicle segment.

Local consumers have shown immediate interest in the aesthetic and technological changes implemented, which aim to update the model compared to its direct rivals, such as the Toyota Noah and the Voxy, in addition to the Honda Stepwgn. The brand’s strategy focuses on offering a more robust equipment package and a renewed visual identity, maintaining the versatility that has established the name Serena over decades in the Asian market.

The sales scenario points to a clear preference for versions that balance cost and benefit, with many buyers anticipating their orders to avoid long queues. The product lifecycle renewal comes at a crucial time, where demand for spacious, energy-efficient vehicles continues to rise in Japão’s urban and suburban areas.

Starting prices, starting at 2,785,200 yen, position the car aggressively. The combination of fast delivery for the first batches and the perception of added value through new security and entertainment technologies has been the main driver of negotiations. The public’s response validates the direction taken by the brand’s engineering in refining an already established project.

Aesthetic evolution and functional dimensions

The vehicle’s visual identity has undergone a notable transformation, especially in the frontal region. Higher trim versions, such as the Luxion and Highway Star V, adopted a new interpretation of the front grille, abandoning the old pattern in favor of a more dynamic and integrated design. Esta change is not just cosmetic, but serves to align the model with the manufacturer’s latest global design language, giving it a more sophisticated presence on the streets.

The lighting system has also been revised, with the introduction of new LED headlights that harmonize with the redesigned grille. The arrangement of the lights and the contour of the lanterns aim to create a modern light signature, increasing visibility and nighttime safety. The front bumper received subtle aerodynamic adjustments, while the sides gained new aluminum wheel options, reinforcing the minivan’s robust appearance without compromising its elegance.

Despite the visual updates, the fundamental dimensions were preserved to guarantee urban practicality. The total length remains at 4,765 mm, with a width varying between 1,695 mm and 1,715 mm, depending on the version, and a height between 1,870 mm and 1,885 mm. Maintaining the 2,870mm wheelbase ensures that interior space, one of the model’s greatest assets since its original launch in 1991, continues to offer superior comfort for all occupants.

Exterior finishing details have also been improved. The body color options were expanded, and elements such as the mirror caps received special treatment in the top versions. Essas small changes, when added together, result in a product that conveys greater perceived quality, attracting both loyal customers of the brand and new buyers looking for a family vehicle with updated aesthetics.

Advanced connectivity and indoor comfort

The interior of the minivan received a technology bath, highlighting the deep integration of digital systems. The dashboard now houses larger, more responsive interfaces, making it easier to access vehicle functions and on-board entertainment. The Luxion version, in particular, raises the finishing standard with soft-touch materials and a layout that favors driver ergonomics and passenger comfort.

The big technological news is the incorporation of the NissanConnect system with Google built-in. Esta functionality allows users to access maps, voice assistant and applications from the Google ecosystem directly on the car’s screen, without the need to pair a smartphone. Navigation becomes more intuitive and traffic updates are processed in real time, optimizing daily commutes.

To assist with maneuvers and perimeter safety, the model has an intelligent 360-degree vision monitor. The system uses high-resolution cameras to create a composite image of the vehicle’s surroundings, making it easier to park in tight spaces and navigate narrow streets, common in Japanese metropolises. The technology detects moving objects, alerting the driver to potential dangers.

Seating flexibility remains a strong point. Configurável for seven or eight passengers, the interior allows multiple arrangements, from transporting maximum people to creating ample cargo space for trips or bulky purchases. The air conditioning system and electric sliding doors complete the family-focused convenience package.

Efficient motorization and dynamic safety

Under the hood, the minivan offers options that meet different usage profiles. Conventional versions are equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, available with front or all-wheel drive. However, the technical highlight falls on the second generation of the e-POWER system. Este hybrid set uses a 1.4-liter engine exclusively as a power generator, while wheel traction is provided 100% by electric motors.

The e-POWER system delivers a driving experience similar to that of a pure electric vehicle, with instant torque of 315 Nm and maximum power of 163 horsepower. The absence of a conventional gearbox provides linear and extremely smooth acceleration, as well as greater on-board silence than traditional combustion vehicles. Energy efficiency is optimized by intelligent management of the 1,769 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The introduction of e-4ORCE technology in all-wheel drive versions takes the vehicle’s stability to a new level. The system controls braking force and torque distribution to all four wheels independently and precisely. Isso results in greater grip on slippery surfaces, less body lean during cornering and braking, and superior ride comfort, reducing occupant head shake.

In terms of driving assistance, the model incorporates ProPILOT 2.0 in its most complete configurations. The system allows semi-autonomous driving on highways, helping with lane keeping, distance control and even assisted lane changes. Recursos as automatic emergency braking and cross-traffic alerts are standard, reinforcing the commitment to road safety.

Market positioning and values

The pricing structure is designed to cover a wide swath of the market. The entry-level model starts at just under 2.8 million yen, while the top-of-the-line Luxion version with e-4ORCE drive can reach almost 5 million yen. Essa breadth allows the manufacturer to capture both the budget-focused consumer and those looking for a premium vehicle packed with technology.

The commercial strategy has proven effective, with reports indicating that many customers are migrating from other brands, attracted by the value proposition of the e-POWER system and the modern interior. The immediate availability of test drives and the launch campaign focused on the car’s family-friendly qualities have boosted footfall in stores.

The minivan market in the Japão is historically competitive, and the update of this model reaffirms the brand’s intention to lead the segment. With a renewed life cycle and technologies that anticipate trends, the vehicle establishes itself as a reference for safe, connected and efficient family mobility for years to come.
