Sony has begun distributing a new software update to selected participants in its next-generation console testing program. The file package focuses on expanding user interface customization capabilities, responding to long-standing community demands for greater control over the operating system’s aesthetics.
Users invited to the test environment can now access the features through the device’s settings menu. The update brings tools that modify the behavior of the home screen, allowing a cleaner and more dynamic view of backgrounds and game information.
The PS5’s Menu has received updates that add a new widget and a new animated wallpaper.

Showcase mode hides interface icons
One of the main additions is the functionality called Modo Vitrine, designed to enhance graphic art or screenshots set as wallpaper. The system was programmed to automatically remove widgets and navigation icons when the console identifies inactivity on the part of the player.
The response time for activating this feature can be configured for short intervals, starting from 15 seconds without commands on the DualSense controller. When it starts working, the interface turns into a kind of screensaver, displaying only the background image chosen by the user on the full screen.
Even with visual mode active, the Sony maintained the possibility of overlaying essential information. Jogadores can choose to keep data such as the system clock or download status visible, ensuring that the aesthetic functionality does not compromise the informative usefulness of the panel.
Slideshow and image rotation
The console’s welcome center, known internationally as Welcome Hub, has received support for creating automated slideshows. Esta tool allows the user to select multiple image files stored in the media gallery to compose a rotating background.
Switching between images occurs at pre-defined intervals in the settings, creating a less static visual experience when turning on the device. The feature uses albums created by the player themselves, making it easy to organize favorite screenshots or game art for continuous viewing.
New performance and statistics widgets
The update also refines the way gameplay data is presented to the user immediately after finishing a match. A new widget dedicated to recent games has been implemented at the bottom of the home screen, offering an immediate summary of activities. Information displayed includes:
– Contagem of the total time invested in the specific game;
– Exact Duração of the last gameplay session held;
– Percentual progress in collecting trophies and achievements;
– Status of pending activities or quick resumption.
Schedule and general availability
Currently, the new features are restricted to the beta environment and present some technical limitations, such as activating Modo Vitrine only when the cursor is over the widget area. Navigating through other main menu icons prevents the interface from being hidden, maintaining standard usability.
The Japanese company has not yet released a definitive date for the release of these features to all PlayStation 5 owners. Historicamente, the testing cycle for major system updates usually lasts between two to three months before implementation in the public version of the firmware.
