Volkswagen has made official the schedule for the introduction of its latest compact SUV into the national market, with sales scheduled to begin on May 25th. The model, which will be produced entirely at the Taubaté industrial unit, in São Paulo, appears as a direct response to the demand for affordable commercial vehicles and aims to compete for the preference of consumers who currently opt for models such as the The German automaker is betting on a high rate of nationalization of components to ensure commercial competitiveness.
The project was developed entirely on the Brasil and reflects the brand’s new visual identity, incorporating aesthetic elements from global vehicles such as the Tiguan. With production already underway, the expectation is that the new utility vehicle will represent a significant portion of the company’s sales next year, leveraging the manufacturer’s presence in the fastest growing segment in the country.
Versions and estimated values
Although the official table has not yet been publicly released, market projections indicate that price positioning will be aggressive. The entry-level version, called MPI, should reach dealerships with prices close to R$94,990, a strategy designed to attract customers looking for their first new SUV. At the other end of the range, the top-of-the-line configuration can reach R$149,990, offering a complete package of equipment and premium finishing.
The line will consist of five different options to suit different buyer profiles. Além of the basic MPI version, the catalog will include the 170TSI, Comfort 170TSI AT and High 170TSI AT options. A special edition, called the High Outfit The Town 170TSI AT, will also be part of the initial portfolio, celebrating the brand’s partnership with the São Paulo music festival and bringing exclusive design details.
Mechanical specifications and performance
Volkswagen engineering chose to use mechanical sets already established in other models of the brand to equip the launch. Access versions will feature a 1.0 MPI flex three-cylinder engine, capable of delivering up to 84 horsepower when fueled with ethanol, always coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. Essa configuration focuses on fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs for urban use.
For the intermediate and top-of-the-line configurations, the choice fell on the 1.0 TSI turbo flex engine. Este propellant offers superior performance, generating up to 116 horsepower and 16.8 kgfm of torque. Nestas versions, consumers will be able to opt for the six-speed automatic transmission, which provides greater comfort on long journeys and in traffic in large cities. Front-wheel drive will be available on all model variants.
Robust design and dimensions
The look of the new SUV stands out for its muscular lines and wide front grille, flanked by headlights with full-LED technology and a segmented light signature. At the rear, the taillights connected by a glossy black stripe reinforce the vehicle’s sense of width. The wheels vary from 15 to 17 inches, depending on the version chosen, with a diamond finish on the more expensive options.
In terms of dimensions, the car measures approximately 4.13 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.56 meters, measurements similar to those of the Polo, with whom it shares the platform. However, the trunk offers greater capacity, holding around 350 liters, which makes it more suitable for family trips and transporting bulky luggage.
Technology and security items
The interior was designed to offer a complete digital experience, highlighting the 10.1-inch VW Play multimedia center, which allows wireless connection with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, available on the most complete versions, allows personalization of driving information. Itens as an induction charger and automatic digital air conditioning are also part of the list of conveniences.
Safety is one of the pillars of the project, with the inclusion of six airbags as standard in all configurations. The driving assistance package on top versions includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and cross-traffic alert. Sensores front and rear parking spaces, combined with the reversing camera, complete the features designed to facilitate everyday maneuvers.
