The Japanese automaker confirmed the technical details and commercial strategy for the relaunch of one of its most emblematic models on the national market during an event held at the Anhembi complex, in São Paulo. After a two-decade hiatus without official imports, the sports coupe reappears completely redesigned, aligned with global demands for electrification and energy efficiency, positioning itself as a pillar of innovation and image for the brand in the country.

The official announcement establishes that the vehicle will arrive at Brazilian dealerships imported directly from Japão, with the first units expected to arrive this semester. The manufacturer’s strategy aims to capture both nostalgic enthusiasts of the line and new luxury consumers who seek exclusivity, placing the model at a level of prestige just below the Civic Type R, but with a proposal focused on the balance between performance and daily usability.

This movement symbolizes a new phase for the company, which seeks to harmonize the emotion of driving with environmental responsibility. The project merges the tradition of the name established in the 90s with a modern mechanical set, demonstrating the commitment of Japanese engineering to keeping the sporting essence alive even in a scenario of accelerated energy transition.

e:HEV system specifications and performance

The new coupe’s propulsion is guaranteed by the renowned e:HEV system, which received an exclusive calibration for this sports chassis. The set operates with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder combustion engine, acting in synergy with two electric motors. Most of the time, traction is provided by the electric thrusters, while the thermal engine works as an energy generator for the batteries, assuming direct wheel traction only at higher cruising speeds.

The technical data revealed by engineering indicates a combined power of 203 hp and an instantaneous torque of 32.1 kgfm, figures that guarantee agile responses when starting up and leaving traffic lights. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in approximately 7 seconds, putting the model on par with direct rivals in the premium segment. The e-CVT transmission has been adjusted to simulate gear changes, providing a more organic sensation for the driver, who also has fins behind the steering wheel to manage energy regeneration.

Energy efficiency stands out as one of the major competitive differentiators of this launch, promising significant numbers for the sports category. According to preliminary measurements released, the vehicle has the following technical characteristics:

  • Estimated consumption of up to 18 km/l in urban cycle, favored by the intensive use of electric mode;
  • Dual-axle front suspension derived from the Civic Type R for greater cornering precision;
  • High-performance braking system signed by Brembo with four-piston calipers;
  • Lowered center of gravity to optimize dynamic stability and reduce body roll.

Aerodynamic design and embedded technologies

The vehicle’s aesthetics were developed under the “glider” concept, using fluid lines that recall the silhouette of classic models, but with a futuristic and clean interpretation. The low and wide front end, equipped with LED headlights interconnected by a light bar, gives it an aggressive and unmistakable visual identity. The roof, with a gentle slope towards the rear, offers the option of a carbon fiber finish, reinforcing the sporty character and contributing to reducing the overall weight of the package.

Inside, the 2+2 configuration prioritizes the comfort of front seat occupants, who enjoy sports seats covered in suede and leather with pronounced side flaps for better support. The rear space maintains the tradition of compact coupes, being suitable for short journeys or transporting extra luggage. An interesting feature is the versatility of the trunk which, with the seats folded down, can offer an increased capacity of up to 663 liters, making it easier to transport larger objects.

The technology package includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel and a 9-inch multimedia center with wireless connectivity for smartphones. The sound experience is designed by Bose, with a 12-speaker system designed specifically for cabin acoustics. In terms of safety, the model comes with the complete Honda Sensing package, with adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane keeping assistant.

Market positioning and competition

The original model, launched globally in 1978, built a solid reputation in the Brasil during the 1990s, becoming an icon of status and technology until the end of its worldwide production in 2001. The current comeback seeks to capitalize on this affectionate memory, offering an alternative of style and refined driving in a market massively dominated by luxury SUVs.

With an estimated price of between R$420,000 and R$450,000, the vehicle should compete directly with established German models, such as the Audi A3 and the BMW Série 2 Gran Coupé. The direct import of the Japão ensures a construction standard of excellence, and the engine was properly tropicalized to handle Brazilian gasoline, guaranteeing the durability and performance predicted by the brand’s engineers.
