Mitsuoka ends production of the Ryugi, a sedan based on the Esses vehicles receive exclusive finishes and maintain the characteristics that made the model unique on the market.

The Ryugi transforms the Toyota Corolla Axio compact sedan into a vehicle with vintage aesthetics. The front features a wide chrome grille, round headlights and elements reminiscent of classic British sedans such as the Jaguar Mark II or models from the Rover era. The body maintains modern proportions, but gains pronounced volumes in the wheel arches and chrome details that evoke the retro style.

Production of the base model Toyota Corolla Axio is also being discontinued in the Japanese market. Isso drove Mitsuoka’s decision to close Ryugi, as the company relies on the Corolla platform for its custom conversions. The final series takes advantage of the last available stocks of original mechanics and structure.

Edition Final with exclusive details

The limited series Ryugi Final Edition adopts an exclusive black color for the body. The vehicles include commemorative emblems on the trunk to mark the end of production. Buyers can opt for premium BBS wheels, which add an additional touch of sophistication to the retro look.

The interior preserves the high-quality natural leather finish. The seats and panels maintain the standard of comfort already known in previous models. The configuration remains focused on smooth drivability and practical daily use.

Maintained engine options

The final examples offer two propulsion options. The 1.5-liter atmospheric gasoline engine delivers 103 hp. The hybrid version combines the same engine with an electrical system for greater fuel efficiency.

Both configurations prioritize performance at medium and low speeds. The CVT automatic transmission ensures smooth shifting and silent operation. Esses attributes made the Ryugi attractive to those looking for a different car without giving up Toyota reliability.

High prices in the farewell series

Prices for the limited edition range from 3.3 million to 3.9 million yen at Japão. Essa range corresponds to approximately 21 thousand US dollars depending on the quote and configuration chosen. The price represents around double the value of a conventional Toyota Corolla Axio in the same region.

The difference reflects the craftsmanship of the complete redesign of the body and interior. The Mitsuoka applies extensive modifications that require specialized labor and premium materials. Esses factors justify the positioning as an accessible luxury niche product.

Model trajectory since launch

The Ryugi debuted in 2014 as one of Mitsuoka’s quirkiest creations. The company gained notoriety for transforming ordinary vehicles into stylized replicas of classic automotive icons. The sedan based on the Corolla Axio stood out for its ability to combine modern Japanese economy with vintage British elegance.

Over more than a decade, the model received periodic updates. Incluíram improvements in comfort and safety equipment without changing the central design concept. Production maintained low volumes, typical of the manufacturer’s exclusive creations.

Characteristics that define the Mitsuoka style

The imposing front grille dominates the front view of the Ryugi. The circular headlights and fog positioning follow patterns from British sedans from the 1950s and 1960s. The rear incorporates vertical lights inspired by classic European designs.

These elements create a striking contrast with the contemporary mechanical base. The result is a vehicle that attracts attention on Japanese streets. Proprietários value the exclusivity and artisanal nature of the transformation.

Legacy in the Mitsuoka portfolio

The closure of the Ryugi marks the end of an era for the company’s sedan line. Similar Modelos are still in the catalog with other bases and styles. Mitsuoka continues to focus on limited productions that mix nostalgia and current technology.

The decision reflects changes in the Japanese automotive market. The discontinuation of platforms like Corolla Axio directly impacts conversions like this. The manufacturer plans future creations with new generations of donor vehicles.
