Toyota officially returned a well-known name to the automotive market, now fully electrified, reinforcing its expansion strategy in the zero-emission vehicle segment. The new model, developed on the dedicated e-TNGA platform, is positioned as a slightly lower and sportier alternative to the RAV4, combining compact dimensions with a robust technology package. The Japanese automaker is betting on coupe-like aesthetics and aerodynamic efficiency to attract consumers who seek style without sacrificing functionality.
The vehicle arrives at North American dealerships in March, marking a new phase for the brand that seeks to consolidate its presence among affordable electric vehicles. With a total length of 4,520 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the crossover offers optimized internal space, taking advantage of the absence of a central transmission tunnel.
The commercial strategy focuses on offering a product that balances performance and cost, filling the gap left by the discontinuation of the combustion model in 2022.
Technical specifications and power
The mechanical set was designed to suit different driving profiles, offering two different engine configurations. The entry-level version, called SE, has front-wheel drive and a single engine capable of delivering 220 horsepower, ensuring agility for urban and highway use. Já The top-of-the-line configuration, XSE, adopts a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, increasing combined power to 338 horsepower.
Performance data indicates that the most powerful version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.9 seconds, figures that place the model in a prominent position in the category. The instantaneous torque, characteristic of electric vehicles, is electronically managed to optimize grip and response when overtaking.
The autonomy estimated by the EPA varies depending on the version chosen by the consumer:
– The SE model, with front-wheel drive, reaches up to 461 kilometers (287 miles) on a full charge.
– The XSE version, due to the extra weight and larger wheels, offers around 439 kilometers (273 miles) of range.
Recharging and battery technology
The vehicle’s electrical architecture supports direct current (DC) fast charging of up to 150 kW, allowing the 74.7 kWh battery to recover from 10% to 80% of its capacity in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. Para charging at home or at level 2 stations, the 11 kW on-board system allows a full charge in approximately seven hours.
An important differentiator for the current infrastructure is native compatibility with the NACS standard. Isso allows owners to utilize Tesla’s vast network of Superchargers without the need for complex adapters, significantly expanding refueling options during long trips.
Interior design and connectivity
The cabin was designed to offer an immersive digital experience, centered around a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The system offers wireless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as over-the-air updates (OTA) that keep the vehicle’s software always up to date. The configurable digital instrument panel allows the driver to prioritize navigation information or energy consumption data.
Despite the low roof profile at the rear, passenger space was preserved thanks to the positioning of the batteries in the floor. The trunk offers a volume of 716 liters (25.3 cubic feet) with the seats in the normal position, and can be expanded by folding the rear seats, ensuring versatility for transporting larger loads.
Prices and market positioning
Toyota has established an aggressive pricing policy to compete directly with established rivals and new entrants in the electric sector. The base SE model has a starting MSRP of $37,000, excluding destination charges, making it one of the most affordable options in its class.
For the XSE version, which adds all-wheel drive, 20-inch wheels and premium trim, the price rises to around $39,000. Na Europa, where the model will be sold as C-HR+, prices start at 36,500 euros, in line with local market demands for compact and efficient crossovers.
