The Chinese manufacturer announced a significant change in the maintenance policy for its latest premium smartphone in the Japanese market. Lançado in December 2025, the device will have a shorter software lifecycle than its predecessor, limited to three major Android operating system updates and four years of security fixes, a decision that contrasts with the longevity trend seen in the industry.

Retreat in update strategy

This new guideline represents a step back compared to the standards established by the brand itself with the Find X8 line. The previous model offered consumers a guarantee of four system renewals and six years of security support, positioning it as a robust option for long-term use. With the change, official support for the new device’s operating system is expected to end with the arrival of the Android 19, around December 2029.

The disparity between generations draws attention, given that both devices belong to the same family of premium products. Enquanto the global market is moving towards extended update cycles, reaching seven years in some competitors, the reduction in support for the new top of the line can impact the perception of the product’s value among the most demanding users.

Location costs and exclusive features

The justification presented for the cut in support involves the technical and financial complexity of implementing exclusive features for Japão. The integration of indispensable local technologies, such as the “Osaifu-Keitai” payment system (based on FeliCa technology), requires dedicated software development and ongoing maintenance, which increases operational costs compared to standardized global versions.

In addition to regional hardware and software adaptations, the company cited the necessary balance between investing in new artificial intelligence resources and maintaining support for legacy devices. The allocation of resources to ensure the fluid functioning of AI tools in the ColorOS operating system was identified as a determining factor in limiting the horizon of guaranteed updates.

Market impact and specifications

Despite the change in software policy, the device’s hardware maintains the high standard expected from the partnership with Hasselblad. The camera array, build quality and overall performance remain the series’ strengths, seeking to attract consumers with out-of-the-box performance rather than extreme software longevity.

It is worth noting that this policy was confirmed specifically for the Japanese version of the device, where system customizations are deeper. The company reinforces that, even with the reduced support time, durability tests indicate optimized system fluidity for the proposed four-year period, guaranteeing a stable experience during the estimated useful life of the product.
