Chinese manufacturer OPPO has confirmed a significant revision to its software maintenance policy for the Japanese market for its latest premium smartphone. The Find X9 device, scheduled for launch in December, will receive three major updates to the Android operating system and four years of security fixes, a shorter cycle than that offered in the brand’s previous generation.
This decision represents a strategic retreat compared to the standards established by the Find X8 line, which guaranteed consumers four system renewals and six years of security support. With the new guideline, official support for the new device, including the expected arrival of the Android 19, is scheduled to end definitively in December 2029, limiting the longevity of the software in relation to direct competitors.
Adaptation costs and exclusive technologies
The justification for reducing support time lies in the high operational costs to implement and maintain exclusive functionalities required by the local market. The integration of the “Osaifu-Keitai” system, based on FeliCa chip technology for contactless payments, requires dedicated software development and continuous validations that do not exist in global versions of the device, increasing engineering costs.
In addition to the hardware adaptations for payments, the company highlighted the investment necessary to optimize the artificial intelligence resources within the ColorOS interface. To ensure the fluidity of AI tools and system stability, the manufacturer chose to concentrate resources over a four-year period, ensuring that the user experience remains optimized without compromising performance with future updates that could overload the device.
Premium placement and hardware
Even with the change in software policy, the new model maintains the focus on high-level hardware specifications, continuing the strategic partnership with Hasselblad for the camera system. The brand reinforces that robust construction and photographic performance remain the pillars of the product, designed to meet demanding users who seek image quality and fast processing.
The company argues that the four-year support period adequately covers the average device replacement cycle for most consumers. Testes of durability performed by the manufacturer indicates that the system will remain fluid and secure during this window of time, offering a stable and validated experience specifically for the complexities of Japanese mobile infrastructure.
