Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, seeded number one, was eliminated in the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open, in 1000 with partials of 3-6 and 6-7 (3-7), marking an important victory against the then number one in the world.
In the first set, Alcaraz failed to convert any service break chances, while Medvedev stood firm, capitalizing on a break in the fourth game and closing the end. The second half was more balanced, with both players exchanging service breaks. Alcaraz had two opportunities to close the set in the tenth game, but did not take advantage of them, taking the decision to a tiebreak. Medvedev demonstrated superior precision, winning 7-3 and securing victory.
Alcaraz journey and challenge in the final
This defeat prevents Alcaraz, 22 years old, from seeking his third consecutive title in Indian Wells, where he had already won two previous editions. Sua’s journey to the semi-final included victories over Grigor Dimitrov, Alexander Lindelknes, Casper Ruud and Cameron Norrie, in a challenging course before meeting Medvedev.
Daniil Medvedev, 30 years old, advances to the final, where he will face the Italian Jannik Sinner, second seed. Sinner secured their place by defeating German Alexander Zverev, fourth seed, in the other semi-final. The final promises to be a clash of high intensity and talent on the world tennis scene.
