The German driver Durante the first free practice, held on Friday (13), he highlighted the strong undulations on the approach to turn 10, stating that the car seemed about to break down. The statement gained repercussions when commentator Townsend Bell responded ironically on the broadcast, saying “Welcome to Indy. Isso is not Mônaco”.
The street circuit, 4.3 km long, was set up around the AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and the Globe Life Field, the stadium of the Texas Rangers. The irregularities appeared in the opening minutes of the session, especially on the opposite straight and in the section leading to turn 10. Schumacher, adapting to the category after passing through Fórmula 1, expressed surprise at the level of irregularities, something less common on more uniform European tracks.
Experienced IndyCar drivers minimized the problem and praised the track as a whole. Most considered the circuit challenging and fun, highlighting the quality of construction and the atmosphere of the event. The Arlington GP represents one of the big news on the 2026 calendar, with local times at Texas guiding the schedule.
Drivers’ mixed reactions to the new circuit
Several competitors shared positive impressions of the overall layout. Scott McLaughlin described the experience as an “absolute blast”, likening the sensation to something exciting and playful. Ele highlighted the pleasure of driving on a new route.
Pato O’Ward praised the organization of the paddock, pit lane and the work carried out on the track. Ele stated that everything was as it should be, reinforcing the good impression shared in the category environment.
Scott Dixon went further and called the event “epic”. The driver pointed out the phenomenal work of the organizing team and considered the GP a new standard for IndyCar, showing enthusiasm for the stage in Texas.
Track Details and Adaptation of Schumacher
The route has unique characteristics as it circulates around famous sports arenas. Schumacher mentioned that it wasn’t his first time driving around a stadium, making a comparison with Miami’s GP from Fórmula 1. Ainda thus, the undulations took him by surprise.
Louis Foster, Schumacher’s teammate at Rahal Letterman Lanigan, also expressed shock at the irregularities, even after prior warnings about recent repaving. The duo faced difficulties finding the ideal setting for the car.
The training sessions revealed that the irregularities affected some sectors more. At turn 10, the cars were shaking intensely, requiring constant adjustments to the shock absorbers and handling.
Praise for the construction and hospitality of the GP of Arlington
Kyle Kirkwood classified the track as “beautiful” and one of the best built in the category. Ele highlighted the local hospitality, high expectations and the event’s impeccable visual identity.
The organization received credit for the speed of assembly and the overall quality of the circuit. Pilotos agreed that the route offers overtaking opportunities and keeps the action constant.
The event continues with qualifying and racing on Saturday and Sunday, Texas local times. The schedule includes FP3 on Saturday morning, followed by timings in the afternoon.
Initial challenges in adapting to IndyCar
Schumacher, in his third race in the category, is still looking for the ideal pace on American streets. Ele compared the experience with previous steps, such as St. Petersburg, but admitted that Arlington raised the level of physical demand.
Townsend Bell’s ironic response reflects the character of IndyCar tracks. Muitos urban layouts have natural irregularities, different from the more polished circuits of Fórmula 1.
The German continues to adjust the car for the next sessions. The team works on solutions to minimize the impacts of waves without losing performance.
The Arlington GP marks the debut of a promising circuit on the calendar. The category seeks to expand its presence at Texas with a high-level event.
