An application race in the early hours of March 23, 2026 turned into a birth scenario in Criciúma, in Sul of Santa Catarina. A baby surprisingly came into the world inside a driver’s vehicle, marking a moment of emotion and quick action.

Driver Alander Leonel, 39 years old, was on his way to Hospital Materno-Children’s Santa Catarina with a pregnant woman and her husband when the unexpected happened. The common route became the stage for a birth, transforming the nighttime work routine into an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

The mother and newborn, whose names were not released, were promptly treated at the hospital shortly after arrival. Ambos are doing well, demonstrating the success of the atypical birth and the driver’s agility in taking them to their final destination.

The start of a surprising race

The race began like so many others in the early hours of the morning, with the expectation of taking a passenger in labor to the hospital. Contudo, the unpredictable nature of the birth meant that plans changed drastically along the way.

Alander Leonel reported the intensity of the moment, describing how the passenger quickly realized that the baby would not wait to arrive at the hospital. Foi a sequence of events that required the driver to calmly and quickly deal with the situation.

Labor in the car

The pregnant woman went into advanced labor, surprising the driver and her husband. Alander Leonel described to ND Mais the moment when the passenger indicated that the birth was imminent, still in the middle of the journey.

The birth took place on a side street, close to the city hall park, a place that now carries a unique history. Mesmo amidst the adrenaline, the safety and well-being of mother and baby were the top priority. The driver remained focused on moving forward to the destination.

Mixed feelings and arrival at the hospital

The experience generated a “mixture of happiness and worry” for Alander, as he himself described it. The joy for the new life contrasted with the natural apprehension of such a grand and unexpected event outside a hospital environment.

Even with the baby already in the mother’s arms, the driver did not hesitate to immediately head to the hospital. Arrival at the hospital ensured that both the mother and the newborn received the necessary medical care, confirming that the birth occurred without major complications.

Recording a singular moment

In the heat of emotion and to perpetuate the memory of such a rare event, Alander Leonel took the initiative to record the moment. Ele suggested that the couple take a photograph right after the birth, capturing the essence of that moment.

“Her husband kissed her head, and I took the photograph”, reported the driver, immortalizing the love and relief. Esse gesture demonstrates Alander’s humanity and emotional involvement with the situation, transforming him into a fundamental part of this story.

The desire for reunion and the implications

Without having had contact with the family after the birth, Alander expresses the desire to reunite with the mother and baby in the coming days. Ele intends to deliver the photographic records and, certainly, relive the emotion of the day his car became an improvised nursery.

“I intend to see the angel who came into the world in my car again,” he said, revealing the lasting impact of the experience on his life. The episode adds to the many reports from app drivers who, in addition to transporting passengers, end up experiencing extraordinary situations, demonstrating the diversity and unpredictability of the profession.

This case in Criciúma highlights the adaptability and proactiveness of ordinary people in the face of emergency circumstances. The story of the baby who didn’t wait to arrive and chose an app car as his first home is a reminder of the pulsating life and how it can surprise at any moment, anywhere.
