BYD presented version Special Edition of Dolphin 2027 in the Brazilian market. The electric hatch arrives positioned as an intermediate option in the line, with a suggested price of R$159,990. Ele is between the GS version, which costs R$149,990, and Plus, offered for R$184,800. The updates focus on appearance, engine and some aspects of comfort and technology, without changing the entire current model range.

The launch takes place at a time of greater competition in the compact electric hatchback segment. The Special Edition adopts elements of BYD’s new Ocean family visual identity. Visual changes are restricted to this configuration for now, while the GS and Plus versions maintain the previous design.

  • New length of 4,280 mm, with a gain of 15.5 cm compared to the previous version
  • Wheelbase maintained at 2,700 mm
  • Width 1,770 mm and height 1,570 mm
  • Trunk capacity of 250 liters, without adding frunk

Updates to the exterior design

The facelift brings a more aerodynamic and curvy front end. The headlights connected to the illuminated grille gained less rectangular shapes, with tribal elements on the inside of the grille. The sides display new 17-inch alloy wheels, which follow the model’s more sober line, similar to some well-known compact hatchbacks on the market.

At the rear, the new design includes the BYD logo illuminated in the center, replacing the old slogan. The rear optical assembly was also redesigned to follow the brand’s current visual language. Exterior color options include Preto Obsidian, Azul Atlantis, Branco Cheese and Cinza Time.

The longer length contributes to a slightly more robust presence on the street. Apesar Furthermore, the model remains compact and suitable for daily urban use, maintaining proportions that facilitate maneuvering in cities with heavy traffic.

Changes to the interior and ergonomics

The cabin received darker tones, in line with the prevailing taste of the Brasil. The cabin is now predominantly black, with adjustments to the center console. The gear selector has moved to the steering column, freeing up space in the central part.

The 12.8-inch multimedia lost the rotation function, but incorporated the native Google system. The 50W induction charger and the instrument cluster with a larger screen, which displays GPS information including Maps and Waze, complete the interior news. Alguns Door lining materials still have a hard feel in specific parts.

Mechanical performance of Special Edition

Version Special Edition features an electric motor with 177 hp and 29.5 kgfm of torque. Esse set represents a significant gain compared to the 95 hp and 18.3 kgfm of the GS, and is below the 204 hp and 31.6 kgfm of the Plus. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in around 8 seconds, according to data from the manufacturer.

The battery has a capacity of 45.12 kWh, supporting direct current recharging of up to 80 kW. BYD declares range of up to 405 km in the NEDC cycle. The time to recharge from 30% to 80% is approximately 20 minutes. In actual use, a value lower than that published in the Chinese cycle is expected.

Suspension and handling

The suspension now has a multilink on the rear axle, while the front remains independent. Ajustes on the chassis were made to accommodate the new engine. Durante Initial tests, the set showed more travel and a better balance between shock absorption and stability.

These modifications result in more comfortable behavior on uneven surfaces, common on Brazilian roads. The model maintains agile characteristics typical of compact hatchbacks, without losing its practical essence for everyday life.

Sales context and positioning

The Dolphin continues to be among the best-selling electric vehicles in the country. Entre January and March 2026, the line registered 4,557 registered units. Esse volume surpasses the combined total of several direct rivals in the same period.

The arrival of the Special Edition fills a price and content gap in the range. Ela is positioned in the range where new competitors such as Geely EX2 and future releases compete for space. The strategy allows BYD to offer more options without immediately cannibalizing existing versions.

Outlook for line Dolphin

The update brings new life to the original model, which has already completed three years on the Brazilian market. The visual and mechanical changes are concentrated on Special Edition, but may point the way to future extensions of the line. BYD maintains the GS and Plus versions without the changes for now.

The electric hatch continues to be a reference in accessibility in the segment. With the new configuration, the brand reinforces its presence in a niche that is gaining more and more participants. The balance between price, equipment and performance defines the Special Edition’s appeal for buyers looking for a practical and up-to-date electric car.

Equipment and final details

The updated interior prioritizes connectivity and practicality. Integration with navigation services and wireless charging meet current user demands. The 17-inch wheels contribute to the renewed aesthetics without compromising ride comfort.

The absence of a front trunk maintains the standard of the current line. The rear trunk volume remains adequate for everyday use, although limited for long trips with bulky luggage. The four exterior colors allow customization within a sober and modern palette.

BYD Dolphin Special Edition 2027 represents a specific but relevant evolution. Ela combines an updated look, more powerful engine and suspension adjustments in a configuration that occupies strategic space in the price list. The model arrives to maintain the hatch’s competitiveness in an increasingly dynamic electric market.
