New BYD Dolphin 2027 Special Edition gains 177 hp and is between GS and Plus
BYD presented version Special Edition of Dolphin 2027 in the Brazilian market. The electric hatch arrives positioned between the GS and Plus variants with a suggested price of 159,990 reais. Ele receives updates focused on the external appearance and mechanical and cabin components without changing the current generation of the model. The changes aim to maintain the vehicle’s competitiveness in a segment that gains new competitors every month.
The launch takes place at a time of BYD’s strong presence in electrical retail. The Special Edition 2027 line does not replace existing options and seeks to fill the intermediate price and performance space.
Changes to the exterior design of the hatch
The front of the BYD Dolphin Special Edition 2027 gained more aerodynamic and curvy lines. The headlights maintain the connection with the illuminated grille but lose rectangular elements in favor of a fluid design that is closer to the brand’s Ocean identity.
The front grille incorporates tribal details on the inside while the optical assembly is contoured by LED DRLs. Essas changes make the look cleaner and more modern without radically altering the model’s identity.
The overall length has increased by 15.5 centimeters and now measures 4,280 millimeters. The width remains at 1,770 millimeters and the height at 1,570 millimeters. The wheelbase remains at 2,700 millimeters, which guarantees good internal space close to that of some medium sedans.
Updates to the rear and wheels
The rear also received a new design with redesigned taillights. The illuminated BYD logo occupies the center in place of the inscription Build Your Dreams, which had already fallen into disuse.
The 17-inch alloy wheels bring renewed style and contribute to a more sophisticated appearance. The set maintains its compact size but conveys a feeling of greater visual maturity.
The trunk continues with a capacity of 250 liters without including a front trunk. Exterior color options include Preto Obsidian Azul Atlantis Branco Cheese and Cinza Time.
Changes to the interior and ergonomics
The cabin adopted predominantly dark tones to suit Brazilian tastes. The cabin now prioritizes black materials with some finishing touches that still leave room for improvement in the soft touch of the doors.
The center console has undergone a significant redesign. The gear selector was removed from the floor and moved to the steering column. The 12.8-inch multimedia system lost the rotation function but incorporated native Google which facilitates daily use.
The 50W induction charger arrived as standard. The instrument cluster has a larger screen and displays GPS information from both Google Maps and Waze in real time.
- Multimedia with integrated Google
- 50W wireless charging
- Gear lever on the column
- Cluster with expanded navigation
New engine and performance from Special Edition
The BYD Dolphin Special Edition 2027 uses an electric motor with 177 hp and 29.5 kgfm of torque. Esse set represents a significant gain compared to the 95 hp and 18.3 kgfm of the GS version and is below the 204 hp and 31.6 kgfm of the Plus version.
Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes around eight seconds according to manufacturer data. The Blade battery has a capacity of 45.12 kWh, which represents a slight increase compared to the entry configuration.
Direct current recharging supports up to 80 kW. The time to go from 30% to 80% is approximately 20 minutes. The range declared by the brand reaches 405 km in the NEDC cycle although the real number in the Inmetro standard should be lower.
Chassis and suspension improvements
The rear suspension now adopts a multilink configuration while the front remains independent. BYD made adjustments to the chassis to support the new engine and improve dynamic behavior.
Initial tests indicate that the set absorbs impacts better without losing stability. The tuning seems more balanced and close to that found in Dolphin Mini in recent versions.
These modifications aim to offer additional comfort on Brazilian streets without compromising drivability. The brand should extend some of these evolutions to other configurations in the line soon.
Market positioning and sales
The Dolphin Special Edition 2027 appears in a scenario of accelerated growth in compact electric vehicles. The model has accumulated good sales year-to-date and remains a reference in the segment even with the arrival of rivals such as Geely EX2.
The strategy of keeping the GS and Plus versions unchanged while adding the intermediary allows BYD to serve different buyer profiles without cannibalizing the current portfolio. The price of 159,990 reais places the car exactly in the range where many competitors are positioned today.
The hatch continues to have good interior space and a trunk suitable for urban use. The combination of updated performance, a renewed look and modern equipment reinforces its attractiveness for those looking for a practical and technological electric vehicle.
Equipment and final details
The more sober interior and reorganized console improve overall ergonomics. The absence of rotating multimedia simplifies the panel without reducing functionality as the native Google compensates with direct application integration.
The larger wheels and new exterior design contribute to a more robust presence on the street. The model maintains features such as a high ceiling and A-pillar with fixed glass that resemble concepts of large internal space.
BYD is betting that these specific updates will be enough to keep the Dolphin among the best-selling options in the electric hatchback segment in the country. Version Special Edition arrives at dealerships with the aim of balancing cost-benefit and performance in an increasingly competitive market.
