A whale remains in a delicate situation in Baía of Poel, in the region of Wismar, off the coast of Báltico. The animal, known as Timmy, shows zigzag movements and frequent stops this Monday. Equipes rescuers have been following the cetacean with several boats since early in the morning.
The water level rose overnight. Isso allowed the animal some mobility after dredging work concluded on Sunday night. Timmy advanced for a short period but stopped again and remains in the shallow area.
Timmy resumes swimming briefly and then stops
The cetacean started moving early. Ele followed an irregular path for a few minutes. The animal then stopped and lay calmly in the water at around 9:32 am. Pouco then started moving again, but went in the wrong direction.
Aos 9:42 am, Timmy was still again. Apenas the dorsal fin appeared at times. Auxiliadores approached with one or two vessels. The animal let out occasional squirts, without moving any further.
- The tug Robin Hood left the port of Wismar at approximately 9:37 am.
- Esse boat acts as one of four who must guide the whale in the open sea.
- DLRG has teams on standby in case the animal swims freely.
Ministro highlights need for tracker
Till Backhaus, minister of Meio Ambiente of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, reinforced the importance of installing a transmitter in the animal as soon as possible. Placement was not possible the day before. The manager mentioned that Timmy shows orientation difficulties.
The politician followed the actions closely. Ele assessed that the equipment would help monitor the cetacean if it manages to leave the bay. Equipes prepare fixation for the next few hours, depending on conditions.

Plano B takes action with support boats
A lawyer representing the helpers confirmed that the alternative plan has already been prepared and activated. Barcos from DLRG stands by to guide Timmy if he starts swimming alone. The planned route takes the animal via Mar from Norte to Atlântico.
The cetacean remained still at around 9:55 am. Ele was gathering forces, according to observers at the scene. Minutos later resumed short movement, but continued on an unstable course until 10:21 am. Às 10:27 am, the animal was trapped again, accompanied by several vessels.
- The video recorded in the morning only shows the fin in some sections.
- Imagens were reported by News5 and DPA-TNN.
- The operation is supported by teams specialized in maritime rescue.
Condições of water influence next steps
The rise in tide levels during the night helped the teams. The dredging came close to where the animal was on Sunday night. Isso created a possible path for controlled displacement.
Timmy is a humpback whale that entered Ostsee weeks ago. The less salty water environment requires extra care, such as applying salt to the back and using damp fabrics to keep the skin hydrated. Esses procedures took place in the previous days.
The animal shows signs of tiredness after being stranded for a long time. Irregular Movimentos indicate effort to find a way out. Auxiliadores avoid additional stress and maintain a safe distance most of the time.
Acompanhamento technician seeks to ensure security
Quatro vessels must act in the open sea driving phase, if the rescue progresses. The Robin Hood tug is one of them. The constant presence of boats helps monitor the condition of the cetacean in real time.
Especialistas monitor the animal’s behavior. Dificuldades navigation may be related to prolonged time in shallow water. The transmitter would allow precise tracking and route adjustments.
The operation continues this Monday. Equipes evaluate each movement before taking any more invasive action. The objective remains to return Timmy to its natural habitat in Atlântico with as little risk as possible.
