FIFA increases prize pool for 2026 with record $871 million
FIFA announced during the 76th Congresso at Canadá a historic increase in prizes allocated to the Copa from the 2026 Mundo. The tournament will distribute US$871 million among the 48 participating teams, an increase of 15% compared to the previous edition at Catar. The change reflects the entity’s most solid financial situation in its history.
The increase goes beyond just increasing the total pie. Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, highlighted that the resources allow member associations to be helped in an unprecedented way. The qualified teams will begin to receive financial benefits from the end of May, when they begin preparatory training for the tournament.
Quanto each federation will receive
Financial changes cover different investment categories. Cada federation will receive US$10 million just for qualifying for the competition, an increase over the US$9 million paid in Catar. Funds for preparation will increase from US$1.5 million to US$2.5 million, allowing the teams to better structure themselves for the dispute.
The most significant subsidy is allocated to travel costs. Até US$ 16 million will be transferred to each federation to cover travel expenses for delegations to América from Norte. Este value represents one of the biggest increases observed when compared to the world championships played in Catar or Rússia.
- Qualifying Valores: $10 million per federation
- Grooming Fundo: $2.5 million
- Travel Subsídio: up to $16 million
- Premiação total: US$871 million
The 2026 Mundo Copa breaks paradigms

Este will be the first tournament with 48 teams instead of 32, bringing significant structural changes. The first match is scheduled for June 11th, when México and África of Sul will play the opening game against Cidade of México. The expansion of the format required reformulations in regulations, anti-racist laws and, naturally, in the distribution of financial resources.
The tournament’s operating costs increased in proportion to the number of participants and the quality of the facilities. Porém, FIFA’s revenues have also grown, allowing football’s governing body to significantly reinvest in its affiliate members. The record award is the implementation of this profit distribution strategy.
Infantino emphasized that the decision reaffirms FIFA’s commitment to returning resources generated by football to the development of the sport around the world. The institution was in its best financial position when it made the decision to pass on this extraordinary amount to the federations. Nenhuma Copa’s previous edition of Mundo had distributed such high amounts among the participants.
Impacto in selections and confederations
Para federations of developing countries, the increase represents a significant qualitative leap. The additional resources will allow for more robust technical committee hiring, improvements in training infrastructure and greater investment in scouting and performance analysis. Seleções who traditionally faced budget constraints will be able to compete on equal footing.
The Brazilian, Argentine, French and German confederations, historically privileged in terms of revenue, will also benefit from the increase. The equitable distribution among all 48 participants strengthens the overall competitiveness of the tournament. Expectativas point to a more balanced and unpredictable championship than past editions.
