Pokémon Champions producer Masaaki Hoshino admitted that the game faces technical limitations regarding graphics, but reaffirmed the team’s commitment to prioritizing the quality of the battle system. The statement came after community criticism over poor animations, bugs and missing content since the title’s release for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 8.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Hoshino explained the design decisions and direction of the project. The producer acknowledged fans’ concerns about the game’s visuals, but highlighted that the main focus remains on competitive functionality. “We tried our best in both areas,” he said, referring to graphics and gameplay.
