Quarenta years after the first film in the franchise, the fourth chapter is still finding its way to the screen. Talks are progressing, but the original protagonists have not yet signed a contract.

Paramount Pictures works followingRush Hour, with Brett Ratner at the helm. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, who played detectives Lee and Carter in the three previous films, received an initial offer that they did not accept. The film has a planned budget of around US$120 million and recordings are scheduled to begin in 2026.
