Pokémon animation creator loses YouTube channel after complaints from Nintendo
Elious, creator of the PokéNational channel Geographic on YouTube, faces closure of his channel following dozens of copyright complaints from Nintendo of America. With more than 100,000 subscribers and three years of production, the creator has just seven days to avoid being permanently banned from the platform. The situation exposes the tension between fan content producers and large corporations on the internet.
The channel, active since 2023, became known for short films stylized as National Geographic documentaries, showing habitats and behaviors of Pokémon Legends: Arceus creatures rarely seen in games. The animations, narrated in a documentary tone, portray scenes of predation and natural interactions, winning over the franchise’s fan community.
Nintendo activated copyright reporting system
Nintendo of America filed complaints alleging that Elious’s videos violate rights to images, characters and audiovisual works of the game Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The creator received multiple infringement notices on YouTube’s reporting system, which operates on a “three strikes” mechanism before a permanent ban.
