McLaren shines with Norris victory in the Miami GP sprint

Lando Norris started from pole position and won the GP sprint race from Miami. The McLaren driver crossed the finish line ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri. Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third place. Gabriel Bortoleto started and finished in 11th place.

The 19-lap race in the Circuito Internacional of Miami opened Saturday’s schedule. Norris maintained the lead from the start. Ele managed the advantage without suffering constant pressure. The result earned the Englishman eight points in the championship.

Largada maintained initial order with disputes in the midfield

Norris did well and held on to first place. Logo was behind, Piastri surpassed Kimi Antonelli in the first few meters. Leclerc also advanced and formed the initial top 3. Antonelli fell to fourth, followed by George Russell.

Bortoleto started in 11th and managed to maintain the position at the start. Arvid Lindblad did not participate because Racing Bulls did not cover the car in parc fermé. The race had a minute of silence before the start in honor of Alex Zanardi, a former pilot who passed away at the age of 59.

Disputas fierce marked midway through the race

On the second lap, Max Verstappen lost a position and dropped to sixth. Lewis Hamilton surpassed him. Antonelli tried to overtake Leclerc, but the Ferrari driver complained of movement when braking.

Russell overtook Antonelli on lap 8 and took fourth. Verstappen gave back position to Hamilton after overtaking off the track, but retook the place cleanly on lap 10. McLaren continued with superior pace at the front.

The race had little variation in the top positions until the end. Norris managed the advantage. The only relevant change in the top four occurred with Antonelli regaining fourth, but he received a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits and dropped to sixth.

Homenagem and trophy presentation marked the podium

Antes from the start, the pilots paid tribute to Alex Zanardi. The Italian was remembered with a minute of silence. Norris received the trophy from Reid Wiseman, astronaut of Nasa and commander of the Artemis II mission.

Wiseman posed with the top three. The gesture connected the event to space exploration. The race distributed extra points: eight for the winner, seven for second and so on until eighth. Pierre Gasly closed the top 8.

Final Classificação confirms McLaren’s strength

Norris completed the 19 laps with ease. Piastri arrived 3s766 behind. Leclerc finished 6s251 behind the winner. Russell, Verstappen, Antonelli, Hamilton and Gasly completed the top 8. Bortoleto crossed the line in 11th.

McLaren showed strong pace throughout the race. The team occupied the first two positions. Ferrari and Mercedes alternated disputes further back. The sprint precedes qualifying for Sunday’s main race.

Norris now has four victories in sprint races in his career. The result reinforces McLaren’s good performance on the Miami route. Equipes proceed to the classification that defines the long race grid.
