Ethan Ewing and Stephanie Gilmore beat Gold Coast and Brazilians lead the WSL rankings

Ethan Ewing and Stephanie Gilmore won the stage titles from Gold Coast at Austrália. The World Surf League competition ended in the early hours of Monday, May 4th, at Brasília time.

With the result, Gabriel Medina and Luana Silva left Austrália in first place in the world rankings. The Brazilians still took the country’s Tríplice Coroa after the three stages played on the continent.

Australian Ethan Ewing defeated Connor O’Leary in the big decision. Ele scored 14.56 points against the opponent’s 14.17. Foi the third victory of Ewing’s career on the circuit and his first since 2023.

The surfer jumped from 13th to fourth place in the rankings. Medina, who fell in the round of 16, maintained the lead with 17,205 points. George Pittar comes in second with 16,640.

Filipe Toledo stopped in the semi-finals. Ele had eliminated Samuel Pupo in the quarterfinals. Medina lost to Toledo in the round of 16. Samuel Pupo occupies fifth place in the table.

Luana Silva finishes second and takes over female top spot

Luana Silva reached the women’s final for the second stage in a row. The 21-year-old Brazilian lost to Stephanie Gilmore 17.33 to 14.07. Gilmore, 38, scored his 35th victory on the circuit.

Mesmo with runner-up, Luana took the lead in the ranking with 20,345 points. Gabriela Bryan and Lakey Peterson share second place with 19,490. The Brazilian-born Hawaiian overcame Sawyer Lindblad in the semifinals.

Nas quarters, Luana beat Lakey Peterson. The result guaranteed a turnaround in the table. Gilmore, with the home win, moved up to seventh place.

Brasileiros dominate Australian Tríplice Coroa

Medina and Luana accumulated the most points in the three Australian stages. The prize includes a GWM Tank 300 car each.

Medina entered the stage of Gold Coast ahead and held the difference of 565 points to Pittar. Ambos were eliminated in the round of 16. Luana repeated Margaret River’s second place and confirmed the female lead.

The season has 12 stages. Gold Coast was third. The circuit now heads to the next stop.
