Take-Two justifies priority launch of GTA 6 on consoles before PC
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, explained the reasons behind the decision to release GTA 6 first on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, leaving the PC for later. In an interview with Bloomberg, the executive stated that Rockstar prioritizes its main audience — console gamers — because it will be “judged for serving this market first and best.” The game hits consoles on November 19th, while the PC version does not yet have a confirmed release date.
Zelnick reinforced that this choice is not the result of an exclusive agreement with PlayStation. “Historically, Rockstar has released games first for consoles,” said the CEO. Ele argued that this approach is rooted in the developer’s traditional launch strategy, not in recent negotiations with any specific platform.
Mudança weighs heavily on the PC market

The sales landscape for the gaming industry has changed significantly in recent years. Quando to Take-Two was founded, the PC segment accounted for just 5% of sales of its NBA 2K series. Atualmente, for important titles like this, PC sales can reach between 45% and 50% of the total, according to Zelnick.

Apesar of this transformation, the immediate focus remains on consoles. Take-Two believes that ignoring the console public in a highly anticipated release would compromise Rockstar’s reputation with its more traditional consumers. The CEO emphasized that “if this audience is not served first and best”, reaching and satisfying other market segments becomes more difficult.
Expectativas for PC release
The gaming community has been waiting for months for information about when they will be able to play GTA 6 on their computer. Ainda there is no official date, but the expectation among fans is that this version will arrive in 2027. However, Take-Two does not confirm this estimate.
- Lançamento in console: November 19, 2024
- Versão PC: date to be announced
- Plataformas: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S (priority)
- Community Expectativa: 2027 (no official confirmation)
The simultaneous release of GTA 6 on all platforms would have impacted Rockstar’s technical and support capacity, according to industry analyses. By focusing on consoles first, the developer ensures that servers, bug fixes and additional content are optimized for these audiences before expanding to PC.
Precedentes in the history of Rockstar
The strategy of a temporary exclusive release on consoles is not new for Rockstar Games. Títulos like GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 and other blockbusters from the developer followed this approach. The arrival on PC took place months or even years after the initial launch on PlayStation and Xbox, allowing the company to consolidate console revenue and progressively manage demand.
Zelnick highlighted that this sequence reflects the strategic importance of the console market for Rockstar. Mesmo With the significant growth of the PC as a gaming platform, consoles remain the central axis of the premium gaming industry, especially for large releases.
