Rockstar Games will release “GTA 6” in November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, leaving the computer version out of the opening day. The decision raised questions in the industry, especially as the PC market represents a significant share of current game sales.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (publisher of the title), explained the reasons in a recent interview with Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. Segundo he, the strategy follows a historical pattern of Rockstar: prioritizing consoles to serve the “main customer” before expanding to other platforms.

PC Mercado represents almost half of sales

The executive revealed important data about the current launch scenario. In big releases, the PC can account for up to 45% of a game’s total sales. Apesar of this expressive number, Rockstar chose to maintain initial exclusivity on consoles, postponing any commitment to the desktop platform.

Zelnick argued that this approach allows the company to focus resources and attention on priority audiences. “If your main audience is not present, if they are not served first and in the best way, then you will not be reaching other customers either”, stated the CEO during the conversation.

Sem exclusive agreement with PlayStation

A natural question arose: was the decision linked to an exclusive contract with PlayStation? Zelnick responded directly: no. The CEO reinforced that historically Rockstar has always released its titles first for consoles, without involving specific commercial agreements with any manufacturer.

“No. Historicamente, Rockstar has always released its games first for consoles,” said the executive when asked about exclusives.

Metas ambitious sales for 2026

The investment in “GTA 6” was monumental. With eight years of development and a team made up of thousands of employees, Take-Two set an aggressive goal: to sell more than 10 million copies. The astronomical budget reflects the publisher’s ambitions for the biggest release of the year.

Apesar of the impressive numbers, Schreier pointed out the potential risk of the strategy. Abrir’s hand in nearly half the market at initial launch could cost significant revenue, especially considering that the PC segment has grown exponentially in recent years.

Quando asked about this possible risk, Zelnick responded with characteristic brevity: “We’ll see how this ends.”

Release confirmed Cronograma

The date sequence is already defined:

  • November 19, 2026: Release for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
  • PC Data: to be confirmed by Rockstar Games
  • Plataformas mobile: no official information yet

The absence of a specific date for PC maintains uncertainty among platform players. Historicamente, Rockstar titles reach computers months or even years after their release on consoles, as happened with “GTA 5”, which took a year to reach the platform.
