YouTube released three main recommendations to increase the safety of children and teenagers in the digital environment. The initiative came from Dr. Garth Graham, director and global head of the platform’s Saúde, and was announced on the eve of Internet Segura’s Dia, celebrated on February 11, 2026. The guidelines focus on establishing family boundaries, prioritizing age-appropriate content and creating clear and supervised accounts to ensure safer digital experiences.

Ferramentas time limit for usage control

Parents can set limits that suit each family’s needs through Family Center, a centralized space for managing children’s and teenagers’ accounts. YouTube offers different environments, such as YouTube Kids for younger people and supervised accounts for teenagers. A recent feature allows you to set daily limits for the Shorts feed, including the option to reduce the time to zero, offering full flexibility to guardians.

Parents select the child’s account, access the time management tab and adjust the desired limit for Shorts. The tool also offers customizable reminders for breaks and bedtime in supervised accounts. Esses alerts help create healthy routines and avoid prolonged use at inappropriate times, with settings adjusted according to each family’s routine.

Conteúdo appropriate and filtered by age group

The platform applies stricter policies for young audiences, ensuring that recommendations meet high safety standards. When creating a supervised account, parents choose recommended content settings for specific age groups. The recommendation system prioritizes videos that respect the platform’s guidelines for minors, with algorithms that filter out inappropriate material and reduce exposure to potentially harmful content.

Parents can also manually select videos on YouTube Kids, especially for younger users. Essa personalized curation ensures kids only watch material approved by their parents. The platform maintains strict moderation policies for content aimed at minors, automatically removing or restricting videos that violate guidelines for children and teenagers.

Simplified Gestão and profile switching

  • The “Who’s Watching” feature lets you quickly switch between familiar profiles in the app.
  • Cada member accesses a personalized environment, avoiding inappropriate content sharing.
  • No Family Center, parents view and manage all linked accounts, including Kids YouTube accounts and supervised accounts.
  • It is possible to create new child accounts directly through the tool, speeding up the initial configuration process.

Creating clear accounts makes it easier to instantly target age-appropriate experiences. The instant account switching feature prevents cross-access to adult content on shared devices. Famílias with multiple users benefit from this clear separation of experiences, with functionality available directly in the mobile application.

Importância from dialogue and active supervision

Technical tools become more effective when combined with open conversations about digital rules. Parents set clear expectations regarding internet use, promoting responsibility from an early age. Essa practice strengthens children and adolescents’ relationship with technology and reduces risks such as excessive exposure to screens.

Estudos point out that active monitoring reduces the risk of contact with inappropriate materials. No Brasil, data from 2025 shows that young people spend hours daily on video platforms, making the balance between access and supervision essential. Pesquisas indicate that 93% of Brazilian children and adolescents aged 9 to 17 are active internet users, highlighting the relevance of tools that facilitate parental control and digital education.

Brazilian Contexto and mobilization for digital security

No Brasil, Dia of Internet Segura 2026 included panels on public policy and online age verification. Entidades such as CGI.br and SaferNet promoted events to discuss digital protection of minors, complementing global initiatives from platforms such as YouTube. The Dia by Internet Segura strengthens collaboration between platforms, families and institutions for a more protected digital environment. YouTube recommendations, combined with practical tools, contribute to this common goal of ensuring safety for younger generations in the digital environment.
