Apple has officially confirmed that macOS 27, released in September, will work exclusively on computers equipped with M-series ARM processors. Macs with Intel chips, even compatible with the current version, will be left out of the update. The decision ends a transition that began six years ago, when the last Mac Intel was discontinued by the company.
Modelos Intel lose access to new operating system
Pro MacBooks released until the beginning of 2020 will not receive macOS 27. The same occurs with iMacs 5K from 2020 and Mac Pro from 2019. Esses computers, although compatible with the current version of the system, have reached the limit of technical support that Apple offers on average to its products. Qualquer Mac prior to these models will also be blocked. The company did not need to announce this decision explicitly, as the confirmation of exclusive compatibility with ARM was enough to make clear the end of support for Intel processors.
Rosetta 2 will be killed and Intel applications will no longer work
macOS 27 will completely remove Rosetta 2, a tool that worked as a code translator between Intel and Apple Silicon processors. Aplicativos developed for x86 architecture will no longer open on the new system. Most popular software has already been ported to ARM natively. Porém, there are smaller, specialized programs that have never received an update and will become unusable.
- Softwares not adapted for ARM will not work on macOS 27.
- Rosetta 2 will be completely removed from the operating system.
- Desenvolvedores had years to migrate their applications.
- Softwares professionals from Adobe, Microsoft and Autodesk already run natively on ARM.
- Old third-party Ferramentas may become incompatible.
Macs with M1 chip and later will receive the update
Qualquer Mac equipped with M1 processor or later is guaranteed to receive macOS 27. The list includes MacBook Air M1 through M5, MacBook Pro with M series, iMac M1, M3, M4, Mac mini M1 through M4 Pro, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro M2 Ultra. Não is no exception in the current range of Apple computers. Máquinas released between June 2026 and before macOS 28 will also receive full OS support.
WWDC26 will reveal details about artificial intelligence and Siri
The WWDC26 opening event takes place on June 8th, when Apple will present details about macOS 27 to the public for the first time. Rumores indicate a focus on artificial intelligence integrated into the system. The new Siri, delayed from 2024, is expected to arrive alongside AI photo editing features. Desenvolvedores and invited press will receive access to builds and technical documentation after the official presentation.
Até now the only official confirmation is exclusive compatibility with ARM processors. Nenhuma new functionality has been revealed by the company. macOS 27 should function as a transitional version, similar to what will happen with iOS 27. With this release, artificial intelligence should dominate the next generations of Apple operating systems.
