Guibing Zhang, president of Chery Group International, confirmed the landing of the Omoda 2 on the Brazilian market for 2028. The vehicle will be revealed globally at the end of 2027, but its arrival at Brasil will take place a few months later. The adaptation to flex technology, a mandatory fuel in the country, justifies the postponement of local commercialization in relation to the international launch.

Estratégia portfolio focused on entry segment

The Omoda 2 integrates a broader Chery Group strategy to win over consumers looking for affordable vehicles in the Brazilian automotive market. Enquanto the Omoda 4 competes with higher priced medium SUVs and the Jaecoo 5 faces the Volkswagen T-Cross, the new smaller model positions itself as an economical alternative in the compact segment. Detalhes technicians remain under strict secrecy outside of China, keeping the prototype protected from premature disclosures.

The Omoda & Jaecoo brand operates exclusively outside of Chinese territory, representing Chery Group’s global expansion into strategic markets. Essa portfolio structure follows the model adopted by other Chinese manufacturers present in Brasil, such as BYD and GAC Aion, which offer vehicles in different price ranges and positioning to serve different audiences.

Especificações confirmed new model

  • Global Revelação scheduled for late 2027.
  • Lançamento on Brasil estimated for 2028.
  • Versão flex confirmed for the national market.
  • Estratégia pricing focused on the entry-level segment.
  • Sigilo maintained around technical specifications and engine power.

The information disclosed so far is limited to the points above. The company maintains confidentiality regarding engine details, dimensions and standard equipment, a common strategy in pre-launches of new models in the global automotive market.

Motorização open, but with a technological trend

The issue of the Omoda 2’s engine remains undefined. The Chery Group operates with a component sharing model where technologies present in a vehicle can be adapted to other models in the portfolio. The Jaecoo 5, for example, comes with the Brasil as a full hybrid, but offers combustion-only versions in other global markets. Na China, the brand offers smaller three-cylinder turbo engines, but the Brazilian operation has prioritized 1.5 turbo engines in its recent launches.

The possibility of an Omoda 2 completely without electrification seems unlikely, considering that the brand has built its reputation in the country by offering vehicles with a high level of onboard technology. Official confirmation on which engines will arrive remains pending, and should be revealed close to the global launch of the model.

Concessionários Brazilians already know the prototype

Grupos from Brazilian dealers were invited by Omoda & Jaecoo to learn about the new Chery Group, and some had early access to the Omoda 2 prototype under strict secrecy. The general impression among these retailers was so positive that it displaced the previous interest in the QQ3, a Chinese electric compact hatchback model that starts at 58,900 yuan at China. The QQ3, now an independent brand within the Chery portfolio, would be a direct rival to the BYD Dolphin and Geely EX2 in Asian markets.

The experience with the Omoda 2 has changed the priorities of Brazilian sellers, who are now showing greater enthusiasm for the arrival of the smaller and more affordable model in the Omoda & Jaecoo line. Essa positive response from dealers indicates significant commercial potential for the new vehicle in the entry-level segment of the national market.
