Chinese automaker BYD has initiated a recall process involving 89,811 units of the Qin Plus DM-i plug-in hybrid model in the Asian market. The measure comes after the identification of a manufacturing defect in the vehicles’ lithium battery pack. The problem presents direct risks to the safety of occupants. The procedure covers cars produced over a period of almost three years and requires technical intervention from the manufacturer to mitigate failures in the electrical system.

Administração Estatal of Regulação of Mercado of China (SAMR) formalized the registration of the call. The body began to supervise the company’s actions. The regulator pointed out that the anomaly could result in the electric motor suddenly losing power while driving. In extreme situations, structural problems in the battery increase the likelihood of traffic accidents and fires. The dealership network will need to act quickly to inspect the affected lots.
