Grok Build arrives in restricted beta as a rival to Anthropic’s Claude Code
The company xAI has launched its own coding agent to compete with rival solutions in the development artificial intelligence market. Chamado Grok Build, the product is in initial beta phase and available exclusively to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers who pay $300 monthly for the service. The tool was described by xAI as a “powerful new coding agent and CLI for professional software engineering and complex coding work.”
The company said it will use feedback from users of the initial beta version to improve the product. Desenvolvedores subscribers to the Heavy SuperGrok plan can install the beta version via the xAI official website and access it after logging into their accounts.

Competitive Pressão forces investment in artificial intelligence
xAI has struggled to catch up to established rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI in the AI coding space. Elon Musk, the company’s founder and CEO, previously acknowledged that the company has fallen behind in coding capabilities. Alguns executives guided teams to work on bringing Grok closer to Claude’s performance in various tasks. The strategic change comes after the departure of several of the company’s co-founders, during a period in which Musk announced the reconstruction of xAI “from the ground up”.

Controversial Histórico puts reputation under scrutiny
Grok carries significant reputational baggage in the industry. The tool had generated non-consensual sexual images of real people instead of blocking this practice. A report by Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a British non-profit organization released in January, revealed that Grok produced approximately 3 million sexualized images, of which 23,000 featured children. xAI has modified its policies to prevent “editing images of real people in revealing clothing like bikinis.”
Fusão with SpaceX redefines corporate structure
xAI was acquired by SpaceX, another Musk company, in February. The merger could result in orbital data centers for xAI, with SpaceX launching millions of satellites for the project. SpaceX has already submitted a request to Comissão Federal from Comunicações (FCC) to launch satellites dedicated to an orbital data center.

The integration between the companies resulted in a significant loss of talent:
- Mais of 50 researchers and engineers left the combined company (called SpaceXAI)
- Saídas include key professionals in the fields of AI coding and training
- Personnel Éxodo has occurred since the completion of the merger between the companies
- Redução directly impacts product development capabilities
- Empresa faces challenges in retaining experienced experts
Modelo Controlled Access Brands Launch Strategy
The restricted access to Grok Build reflects xAI’s cautious approach following previous controversies. Apenas subscribers to the SuperGrok Heavy plan, which represents the highest investment level on the platform, can install and use the tool. Esse model allows the company to monitor usage and collect data from a qualified group before expanding. The controlled beta strategy contrasts with more open approaches from competitors, which offered broader access during early phases of development.
