Denza introduced its new high-performance convertible in the Salão Automóvel of Pequim with a focus on international markets. The Z Convertible model comes equipped with three electric motors that generate a combined power of more than 1,000 horsepower, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than 2 seconds. The convertible version maintains the elegant proportions of the Z line and adds an electrically operated retractable fabric top.

The launch follows an unusual strategy for BYD’s premium brand. The initial priority falls on Europa and export markets, with a dynamic presentation scheduled for Festival of Velocidade of Goodwood, at Inglaterra, in July. Apenas after that the car will reach the Chinese market, where local estimates point to prices between 400,000 and 500,000 yuan, approximately US$58,600 to US$73,200.

Design signed by Wolfgang Egger with grand tourer influence

The look of the Denza Z Convertible follows the proportions of European luxury grand tourers. The body shares most of its body panels with the coupe variant, but receives a completely redesigned rear end to improve overall balance. The bumpers feature cleaner lines, abandoning the aggressive style seen on previous prototypes.

Wolfgang Egger, current global design director at BYD and former head of design at Audi, oversees work across the group’s brands, including Denza. The example displayed in the showroom has a blue-green tone with a satin finish and an interior in three contrasting colors. The cabin accommodates four occupants in a 2+2 configuration, maintaining internal space without compromising structural rigidity.

  • Capota fabric with electric drive that retracts at the rear
  • Maçanetas hidden ports
  • Light alloy Rodas with specific design for aerodynamics
  • Uso extensive carbon fiber structural components and seats
  • Pequeno hood deflector to optimize airflow at high speeds

Elementos in carbon fiber helps reduce weight in the body, seats and critical structural components. Removing the fixed roof reveals the internal space without significantly compromising the overall strength of the structure, according to information available from the manufacturer.

Sistema three-motor propulsion and all-wheel drive

The Denza Z uses a set of three electric motors with four-wheel drive, totaling a combined power of more than 1,000 horsepower, or about 746 kilowatts. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour occurs in less than 2 seconds, placing the model at the level of electric hypercars from established brands.

The chassis features DiSus-M electromagnetic suspension, steering by wire and advanced driver assistance systems. BYD’s E3 platform serves as the basis for the powertrain, balancing straight-line performance with cornering stability. The battery is compatible with the brand’s fast charging technology, although exact capacity and autonomy details have not yet been disclosed in the static debut.

Launch Estratégia prioritizes European validation

Denza opted for an unusual launch order in the luxury convertible segment. The initial focus is on Europa and other export markets, with further validation planned at the Nürburgring circuit before series production. Apenas after this phase the model will reach the Chinese market with commercial availability.

The Z line also includes coupe variants and a more track-oriented version, expanding the brand’s high-performance portfolio. BYD sees the model as part of the offensive in high-performance electric segments, seeking premium positioning with accessible technology in relation to traditional European competitors. The estimated price suggests an aggressive proposal for those looking for performance without the total cost of rivals in the segment.

Especificações techniques and differences compared to the coupe

The convertible version preserves most of the mechanical characteristics of the coupe, with visual differences concentrated in the absence of a fixed roof and adjustments at the rear. The example in the showroom displays elements that point to the intensive use of light materials, with magnetorheological suspension and assistance systems promoting quick responses in different road conditions.

Denza has not yet released a complete technical sheet with total weight, exact dimensions or precise battery capacity numbers. The next steps include dynamic tests and the appearance in Goodwood for the international public, consolidating the model’s position in the niche of luxury convertibles with high-performance electric engines.
