The final position in the LaLiga league table determines how much money each club will receive for television rights. A quarter of the total distribution of rights is distributed according to the position of each team, creating a significant difference between the first and last placed teams.

Barcelona, already champions, will pocket 54.91 million euros for finishing in first place. Real Madrid, in second, will receive 48.45 million. The difference between champion and runner-up exceeds 6 million euros just due to the distribution by position. The amounts are calculated on the 1.292 billion euros distributed in television rights in the 24/25 season, with 25% of this total (323 million approximately) being divided according to the final classification.

Cálculo based on percentage of television revenue

The system established by Real Decreto-ley 5/2015, unanimously approved by the Spanish Congresso, divides television rights into three main parts. Metade is distributed equally among all 20 clubs. The other half is divided into two criteria: social implementation (allowances, taquilla and commercial participation in retransmissions) and final position in the table (25% of the total).

Third place will receive 41.99 million, while fourth place will receive 35.53 million. Betis, in fifth place, will pocket 29.07 million. The sequence continues to progressively reduce until the twentieth place, which will receive just 0.80 million.

Clubs competing for seventh place (European Conference League competition) suffer greater variation. Celta and Getafe compete for a spot that will yield 22.61 million. The difference for eighth place is 6.46 million euros, a substantial amount that rewards access to European competitions compared to remaining only in the domestic championship.

Impacto in the last rounds and relegation

The last round of LaLiga involves several simultaneous fights. Villarreal and Atlético Madrid play against each other for third place, with a difference of approximately 6.5 million euros at stake. The draw favors Atlético, which had a better result in the first round. The day also decides a second place in Conference League between Getafe, Rayo, Valencia and Espanyol.

In the relegation zone, five teams are fighting for two relegation places that will follow Oviedo to LaLiga Hypermotion. Levante, Osasuna, Elche, Girona and Mallorca are implicated. The difference between staying in LaLiga or going down represents not only sporting issues, but also future financial income. Oviedo, already relegated, will receive just 0.80 million for twentieth place.

Parcelamento in five seasons

Clubs do not receive the full amount in a single payment. The distribution takes place over five consecutive seasons with decreasing percentages: 35% in the first year, 20% in the second, and 15% in the following three years.

Barcelona, for example, will receive 35% of the 54.91 million (19.22 million) in the 25/26 season. Simultaneamente will continue to receive 20% of the previous season’s earnings (24/25) for finishing first, in addition to the percentages from previous campaigns when he was second and first in different years. Real Madrid will follow a similar pattern with its 48.45 million distributed over the five periods.

Esse installment system balances club revenue and better distributes the financial impact of variations in positioning in the table over the years.

Athletic, Sevilla and Alavés have already guaranteed that they cannot descend or participate in European competitions, having their television revenues fixed according to their current positions. The top five placed and already classified for Champions guarantee revenue from European competitions regardless of the final round, while the other clubs still compete for significant variations in revenue that can reach millions of euros.
