Sony revealed this Wednesday (13) its latest full-frame mirrorless camera, the A7R VI, equipped with a 66.8 effective megapixel sensor. The launch also includes the FE 100-400mm f/4.5 GM OSS lens, a fixed-aperture super-telephoto that expands professional capture possibilities. The product line hits the European market in June, consolidating the Japanese manufacturer’s portfolio in the high-end photography segment.

The new model was developed to serve photographers and videographers who seek to combine extreme resolution with advanced performance in various work scenarios. The camera integrates technological innovations in image processing, autofocus and high-definition video recording capabilities.

Câmera focusing beyond megapixels

The A7R VI is equipped with a back-illuminated Exmor RS sensor that supports up to 16 stops of dynamic range. The OLED viewfinder, combined with 5-axis stabilization, provides a more accurate image composition experience. The NP-SA100 battery, with a capacity of 2,670 mAh, allows you to capture up to 710 photos before needing to be recharged.

The BIONZ XR2 processor, equipped with an integrated artificial intelligence unit, offers reading speeds 5.6 times faster than the predecessor generation. Esse advancement results in AF+ autofocus from Reconhecimento to Tempo Real, an especially valuable tool for photojournalism and covering sporting events. Blackout-free continuous shooting reaches 30 fps, with processing of 60 autofocus and exposure adjustments per second in electronic shutter mode.

Vídeo in 8K and new features

The camera offers 8K recording at 30 fps and 4K recording at 60 fps or 120 fps, both without image cropping. The maximum recording time extends up to 120 minutes, expanding the possibilities for long-term productions. An unprecedented feature, Dual Gain Shooting, reduces noise in shadows — limited, however, to 4K resolutions at 30 fps.

Características main features of Sony A7R VI:

  • Sensor Exmor RS backlit with 66.8 MP effective
  • Processador BIONZ XR2 with integrated AI
  • Faixa dynamics up to 16 stops
  • Captura continuous 30 fps without blackout
  • Autofoco with 60 operations per second
  • Gravação 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 120 fps
  • Visor OLED with 5-axis stabilization
  • Bateria with autonomy for 710 photos

Lente telephoto with constant aperture

The new FE 100-400mm f/4.5 GM OSS replaces its predecessor, the FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS, with significant improvements. The main change is the adoption of a constant f/4.5 aperture across the entire focal range, eliminating previous variability. Autofocus features a 50% improvement in subject tracking and up to three times faster speed.

The total weight is 1.84 kilograms. The construction offers resistance to dust and moisture, essential features for use in challenging environments. The lens integrates XA, XA, Super ED and ED elements for precise control of chromatic and spherical aberrations. The Nano AR Coating II coating reduces reflections and flare effects, while the 11-blade circular diaphragm provides fine control of the bokeh effect. Quatro XD linear motors ensure fast and silent operation.

Disponibilidade and price

Tanto camera and lens will be sold at Europa from June. Suggested prices have not yet been officially announced, but projections indicate that the A7R VI will start above €5,000, equivalent to approximately R$28,835 in direct conversion. The manufacturer should release the final values in the coming months, depending on the proximity of the regional launch.
