Jonathan Andic, son of the founder of Spanish fashion giant Mango, was arrested on Tuesday, May 19, on suspicion of murder. The arrest occurred in connection with the death of his father, Isak Andic, who fell from a height of 97 meters in the mountains of Montserrat, near Barcelona, in December 2024. Os Mossos d’Esquadra (Polícia of Catalunha) took Jonathan to the municipality of Martorell, where he awaits his court appearance.

Isak Andic, aged 71 at the time of death, was Catalunha’s richest man with an estimated fortune of $4.5 billion. The investigation into the incident was reopened after initial considerations that it was an accident.

Reabordagem of the investigation after months of secrecy

Police initially ruled the fatal fall accidental. Inconsistencies in the testimony of Jonathan — who claimed he was walking slightly ahead of his father and heard the sound of stones hitting the ground — were attributed to his state of shock at the time. The investigation was closed in January 2025 due to lack of evidence.

Quando investigators deepened the analysis, Jonathan voluntarily handed over his cell phone for analysis, as reported by the newspaper El País. The police began investigating him in relation to his father’s death, leading to Tuesday’s arrest.

Troubled Relacionamento and inheritance issues

Segundo reports, Jonathan and Isak had, at times, a contentious relationship. Jonathan’s role in managing Mango has changed over the years. Atualmente, Jonathan is listed as vice president of the company’s Conselho and Administração and owns a third of it, but has not been involved in daily operations since June 2025.

Após the death of Isak, his wife and children entered into a dispute over the inheritance. Jonathan is one of three heirs to the founder’s estate.

Detalhes from incident on Montserrat

The episode occurred on December 14, 2024, when father and son were hiking in the mountains of Montserrat. Antes from calling emergency services, Jonathan reportedly contacted his then partner, Estefanía Knuth, who later gave a statement to police as one of several witnesses in the case.

A spokesperson for the Andic family stated that Jonathan was giving a statement as part of the investigation into the accident. “At this time, we cannot add much more as the investigation is under confidentiality. Nossa cooperation has been and will continue to be absolute throughout this entire process,” the family statement said.

Corporate Estrutura and Mango Operations

Mango is one of Espanha’s largest fashion companies, with more than 2,900 stores worldwide and a continuous growth trajectory. Isak Andic founded the company, which has established itself as a reference in the fashion retail segment.

Jonathan held different positions in corporate management:

  • Vice – President of Conselho of Administração
  • Detentor of one third of the company’s shares
  • Sem participation in daily operations since June 2025
  • One of the three heirs to the family estate

Procedimentos legal in progress

Os Mossos d’Esquadra confirmed the arrest of Jonathan in an official statement, but without specifying details of the formal charges. The investigation continues under judicial secrecy, preventing the release of additional information by the Catalan authorities.

Representantes’s Mango Fashion Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the case at press time.
