IOS 26.5 expands features in Messages, Apple Maps and App Store
Apple released iOS 26.5 earlier this month with improvements aimed at three essential iPhone apps. The updates bring security features, location discovery and new subscription options that modify the user experience in critical areas of the operating system.
Mensagens RCS with end-to-end encryption
The Mensagens app received a significant addition in iOS 26.5: RCS support with end-to-end encryption in beta. RCS offers users with “green bubble” contacts features that are much closer to iMessage, overcoming the limitations of traditional SMS.

End-to-end encryption, still in beta, protects messages as they are sent between devices, ensuring they cannot be read during transmission. Apple points out that the feature is not available for all devices or operators at this time. Usuários interested parties should check compatibility with their operator before activating the functionality.

Este Apple’s move represents a breakthrough in the security of communications between users of different platforms, reducing the disparity between iMessage and standard messaging.

Apple Maps now automatically suggests places
Apple Maps’s search screen has gained an intuitive tool called “Suggested Places”. Sempre Once a user taps the search field, two locations automatically appear as personalized recommendations.
Suggestions are based on:
- Popular Locais nearby
- Histórico from previous user searches
- Padrões navigation and preferences
The feature works discreetly, without interfering with the rest of the interface. Apple plans to eventually include sponsored ads among these suggestions, although this will not detract from the core location discovery functionality. The tool represents a welcome addition to navigation, making it faster to find frequent destinations or discover new places.

App Store offers annual monthly subscription plan
App Store has introduced a third subscription option that combines features of traditional monthly and annual plans. Trata offers an annual subscription divided into 12 monthly payments, classified by Apple as a “monthly plan with a 12-month commitment”.
Essa’s approach aims to entice more users to commit to annual subscriptions without facing the immediate financial impact of a one-time payment. By spreading the cost over the year, developers can increase conversion to long-term plans while users receive the annual discount.
Contudo, availability is limited geographically. The new plan is accessible practically everywhere in the world, with the exception of Estados Unidos and Singapura, where it has not yet been implemented.
Impacto update overview
Essas three changes reflect Apple’s strategy of refining existing functionality rather than introducing radically new features. RCS encryption strengthens security, Apple Maps simplifies discovery, and App Store offers payment flexibility. Juntas, iOS 26.5 updates improve the experience for users who rely on these apps in their daily lives.
