One of the most notable gaps in horror gaming history will finally be filled. Behaviour Interactive has confirmed that Jason Voorhees, the masked assassin from Sexta-Feira 13, will join the cast of Dead by Daylight as a playable assassin, marking a triumphant return to the game exactly as it completes a decade of existence.

The creative birthday revelation

The announcement did not follow the conventional path. Behaviour held a 13-hour live stream that began as a still shot of a small cabin in a pine forest. Throughout the broadcast, subtle elements began to gain movement: a cyclist passing by, dogs barking in the background, distant bonfires and lightning lighting up the night.

Nos final minutes, the camera perspective was revealed to belong to Jason himself. Ele would enter the cabin, grab his iconic hockey mask and machete, then gaze at his reflection in a dirty window. The reveal referred to the character by his first name only, rather than directly invoking the Sexta-Feira 13 brand, suggesting a licensing deal structured differently than previous attempts to bring him to video games.

Cronograma arrival and celebrations

The DLC will be released on June 16th. A special anniversary broadcast scheduled for June 14th will provide additional details on Jason’s abilities, gameplay mechanics, and supplemental content. The in-person event in Montreal, the studio’s hometown, will feature developer panels, fan meet-and-greets, gaming stations and an art exhibition.

Behaviour has also prepared a limited edition product collection with 10 exclusive items:

  • Camisetas themed
  • Pôsteres collectibles
  • Trilha soundtrack on game vinyl
  • Itens anniversary exclusives
  • Mercadoria by Dead by Daylight
  • Limited Edições (available from June 12th to July 31st)

Why Jason Took a Decade to Arrive

Desde the release of Dead by Daylight in 2016, Behaviour filled its roster with licensed characters from horror classics: Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, Ghostface, Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Xenomorfo of Alien and Nicolas Cage. The absence of Jason never reflected a lack of interest from the developer, but rather complex legal obstacles.

A web of rights and licensing disputes involving the Sexta-Feira 13 franchise stalled any previous attempts. Friday the 13th: The Game, released after the initial success of Dead by Daylight, was stuck in the same legal complications for years, becoming unplayable on January 1, 2025. A new initiative called Jason Universe was launched in 2024 to expand the character into games, licensed products, and entertainment, finally unlocking these limitations.

The connection to the game’s origins

Jason later appeared in Call of Duty and Fortnite after Jason Universe was established. Sua’s arrival as Dead by Daylight notably coincides with a return to the game’s roots. Dead by Daylight’s first original assassin, Caçador, was created with a masked face and a heavy melee weapon, elements that many fans directly associate with Jason’s influence. Sua’s arrival now feels like the game’s return to its awe-inspiring origins.
