Siqev launches in Spain to certify healthy extra virgin olive oils
A new certification arrives on the Spanish market to highlight extra virgin olive oils with proven health benefits. The Siqev label was launched this Monday by QVExtra. Trinta and six brands have already joined the system.
The initiative took four years to develop. Ela follows Autoridade Europeia criteria of Segurança Alimentar and União Europeia regulation on health claims.
Selo Siqev checks for beneficial compounds
Siqev confirms high levels of polyphenols, unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E in olive oils. Esses elements are associated with positive effects on the heart and antioxidant action.
Certification includes independent audits throughout the production chain. Controls range from production to shelves and the product’s expiration date.
Soledad Serrano, president of QVExtra, explained that the objective is to offer more clarity to the consumer. The entity had already been carrying out voluntary analyzes for 13 years.

Processo respects European rules
QVExtra operates as a non-profit entity. The seal does not grant exclusivity to any brand and follows the legislation in force at Europa.
Produtores participants seek to differentiate their olive oils in a competitive market. Nem all extra virgins have the same nutritional profile.
Consumidores gain more transparency
Muitos olive oils contain beneficial compounds, but few are able to communicate this in a proven way. Siqev fills this gap with scientific demands and continuous verification.
The seal combines sensorial, physical-chemical and health quality requirements. Ele exceeds the minimum standards required for the extra virgin category.
Initial Impacto on Espanha
Espanha is the world’s largest producer of olive oil. The launch of Siqev may influence other União Europeia countries.
Industry Especialistas track how voluntary certification will affect commercialization. The trend is towards greater appreciation of nutritional attributes.
QVExtra intends to increase the number of participants in the coming months. Approved Marcas will undergo periodic checks to maintain the seal.
The new system represents an advance in the way the sector presents the benefits of olive oil to the public. Compradores now has a clearer reference when choosing.
