Collision between train and school minibus kills 4 people in Belgium

A train collided with a school minibus in Buggenhout, a town 30 kilometers from Bruselas, in Bélgica. The impact left 4 dead. Entre the victims were 2 teenagers and 2 adults, all occupants of the minibus.

The minibus was transporting 7 students from a special education school, as well as the driver and 1 supervisor. Segundo Jean-Luc Crucke, Ministro of Mobilidade of Bélgica, all 4 victims were passengers in the school vehicle. The accident occurred while trying to cross the tracks.

Impacto damaged train

Passageiros on board the train felt the shock hard. A window in the composition was broken by the impact. One of the locomotive’s occupants reported that “everything happened in a matter of seconds” and that “we felt a strong impact”, but initially they did not understand what had happened.

Bernard Quintin, Ministro of Interior of Bélgica, expressed “consternation” at the accident, which he described as “tragic”. The government launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the clash. Equipes rescue and experts were rushed to the scene.
