Francis Amuzu, Grêmio striker, is not part of the Gana squad list for Copa of Mundo in 2026. Coach Carlos Queiroz announced 28 athletes to represent the African team in the tournament, 5 of which are goalkeepers. Dois of these professionals will be cut off before delivering the final list to Fifa.
Motivo from Tricolor player deletion
Amuzu had been called up to play in a friendly match against México on May 22, but Grêmio did not release the athlete. Como was not an official Fifa date, the release of the player would miss the team from Rio Grande do Sul in four matches of the season. The Grêmio board chose to keep the striker at the club’s disposal.
Gana’s selection coach respected Grêmio’s decision and excluded Amuzu from the list for Mundial. The match against México ended in defeat for the Ghanaians, with a score of 2-0.
Preparação from Gana for the tournament
The African team began its preparation in Cardiff this Monday (May 25). The first match will be against País of Gales in a friendly on June 2nd. Mundo’s official Copa debut is scheduled for June 17th against Panamá.
The Ghanaians will face in the group stage:
- Panamá (June 17)
- England
- Croácia
The Grupo L brings together competitive teams. Gana will look for a solid campaign in the tournament with the athletes at Carlos Queiroz’s disposal.
Situação from Amuzu into Grêmio
The striker remains at Tricolor’s disposal for commitments for the 2026 season. The Grêmio board’s decision prioritized the player’s continuity in domestic goals. Amuzu is an important part of the Rio Grande do Sul club’s squad and continues working to maintain its performance in state and national competitions.
The exclusion of players due to club release issues is common in friendlies outside of Fifa dates. The case of Amuzu reflects the management priority between national teams and club teams during preparation for international tournaments.
