The Jeep Compass will receive a 48V hybrid system in the second half of 2026, maintaining the current generation. The confirmation came from photographs released by a journalist specializing in automotive behind-the-scenes, showing the SUV equipped with the MHEV electrical package. Stellantis, the brand’s controller, revealed last week its renewal plans for the Brazilian portfolio.
The 48V MHEV system works to assist the 1.3 turbo engine with 176 horsepower and 27.5 kgfm of torque. Não adds power to the engine but reduces pollutant emissions. Fuel consumption decreases modestly compared to the current model without electrification.
Roadmap renewal of Jeep Compass
Antes of the third generation arrives, the Compass will undergo occasional updates. The strategy includes:
- Incorporação of the 48V MHEV system later in 2026
- Revisões in appearance and finishes
- Novos standard and optional equipment
- Manutenção from current Small Wide platform
The third generation of the Compass is confirmed for a second phase, with a more robust hybrid system. Stellantis chose to bring forward electrification in the current generation to strengthen the model’s competitiveness in the mid-range segment.
Why Compass needs changes
The seven-bar SUV leads the segment, but faces increasing pressure from competitors with hybrid and electrified versions. Toyota Corolla Cross, GWM Haval H6 and BYD Song Plus already offer electrified motorization. The Compass has been sold with generous discounts, signaling that specific adjustments are no longer enough to maintain its attractiveness.
The lack of a hybrid system created a disadvantage compared to more fuel-efficient rivals. The model competes in a segment where the demand for more economical solutions is continually growing.
Diferenças between MHEV and HEV
The 48V MHEV system that the Compass will receive is the mild hybridization version. Ele assists the combustion engine, but does not function as an independent propellant. Já the HEV system, confirmed for the third generation, acts as the main engine effectively contributing to power and torque.
Na Europa, the new Compass is sold with three engine options: 48V HEV hybrid, plug-in hybrid and 100% electric version. Para or Brasil, the Stellantis is a full hybrid, which does not require external recharging and feeds the electric motor battery with the combustion engine.
Recent Mudanças on Jeep Compass
The Blackhawk version of the Compass recently received the 2.0 turbo flex engine with up to 272 horsepower and 40.8 kgfm of torque. The adoption of the flex system maintained the original performance, unlike what happens with other engines that lose power when adapted to ethanol. Jeep has implemented a series of technical adjustments to ensure efficiency on both fuels.
The 1.3 turbo engine continues to be the engine with the highest sales concentration in the Compass line. Este engine will benefit from the MHEV system, reducing implementation costs and facilitating integration into Stellantis production lines.
Terceira generation and new platforms
The next generation of Compass, Renegade and Commander has been confirmed by Stellantis for Brasil. Stellantis also announced new models derived from Dongfeng’s Chinese platform for the Jeep and Peugeot brands. Essas structural changes reflect the parent company’s global strategy of modernizing its portfolio with more efficient technologies.
The Compass debuted on the Brazilian market in 2016, in its second generation, sharing the Small Wide platform with Renegade, Commander, Toro and Rampage. Essa same platform will continue until the arrival of the third generation, now with the reinforcement of electrification as a competitive differentiator.
