Microsoft ends automatic OneDrive photo sync on Galaxy on September 30
Microsoft confirmed the end of automatic synchronization of photos and videos between OneDrive and Samsung Galaxy cell phones from September 30, 2026. The change affects users who use Samsung Gallery integrated with the Microsoft cloud service.
Native Sincronização stops working
“After September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery will stop syncing photos with OneDrive. Todas photos stored on OneDrive will disappear from your Samsung Gallery app,” Microsoft confirmed in an official statement. Files already saved in the cloud until that date will remain stored normally, as will media in the device’s gallery. What changes is how the native integration works between the 2 applications.
The partnership between Microsoft and Samsung for automatic synchronization was launched in 2019. Para to Microsoft, the integration meant having the OneDrive app pre-installed on Galaxy phones, expanding its user base.
Alternativas to continue backing up
Quem wants to keep automatically backing up photos and videos to OneDrive and can continue using the service through manual settings. You must have the OneDrive app downloaded, be logged in to the Microsoft account and activate the “Câmera Backup” function in the media settings. Dessa way, cloud storage will continue to work without native Samsung Gallery sync.
Options available to Galaxy users include:
- Fazer manual backup via the OneDrive app with the “Câmera Backup” function activated
- Migrar to Google Fotos, Google cloud service integrated with Android devices
- Utilizar, Samsung’s own media backup service
- Manter files exclusively in the cell phone’s local gallery
Sinais discontinuation began in 2025
The discontinuation was not a complete surprise. In September 2025, signs found in One UI 8.5 (Samsung’s operating system) indicated that automatic synchronization was about to be discontinued. Microsoft now confirms the official calendar and practical implications of the change to September 30, 2026.
The company highlighted in its statement that “you will need to update your camera roll settings to continue backing up new photos and videos and to access photos that you have already backed up through the OneDrive app.” Essa update requires manual action from users before the deadline.
Preparação recommended ahead of schedule
Usuários of Galaxy should review their backup settings in the coming months. Quem intends to continue using OneDrive as its primary cloud service for photos. You need to manually activate “Câmera Backup” in the OneDrive app before September 30th. Alternativamente, migration to Google Fotos is viable, although free storage on the Google service is more limited than past offerings.
