The 007 First Light game will come to PlayStation 5 Pro with enhanced PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling technology enabled by default at launch. The evolution of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s machine learning-based image reconstruction system promises visual results significantly superior to those achieved by the previous generation of technology.

IO Interactive reported an immediate impression with the results obtained during the integration of the new upscaler. Henrik Schlichter, Diretor Técnico of IO Interactive, said the PSSR upgrade provided a significant leap in image quality across the board — cleaner, more stable, and noticeably sharper in the finer details.

Melhoria visual in complex scenarios

The improved version of PSSR demonstrates clear evolution in image quality across the entire 007 First Light universe. The improvements are particularly noticeable in scenes that traditionally represent the biggest challenge for upscalers: outdoor environments with dense foliage and close-up details of characters in cinematic moments.

The new system substantially reduces flickering and flickering artifacts, providing a calmer, more cohesive image. Cenas’s fine geometry and high-frequency details experience remarkable graphical noise reduction, resulting in superior temporal stability both in camera movements and during player locomotion in open environments.

Detalhes thinner with greater precision

Cabelos, tissues and other minute elements receive more precise treatment in image reconstruction. Esse aspect is of fundamental importance in 007 First Light, considering that the presentation of the characters constitutes an essential component of the game’s visual experience.

Objetos in motion maintains its definition instead of fragmenting during action scenes. The camera when moving through environments or the player when running between covers keeps the image cohesive in a much more convincing way than in previous versions of the upscaler.

Remarkably fast Integração

One of the most impressive aspects of the updated PSSR, from IO Interactive’s perspective, was the technical ease of implementation. Jon Rocatis, Engenheiro Principal from Renderização from IO Interactive, revealed that the team integrated the new upscaler in approximately one day of work.

The image quality was so satisfactory right from the start that no specific adjustment was necessary for each scene, even with the wide variety of locations and lighting conditions present in 007 First Light. Rocatis commented that the lack of work for special cases represents a rare situation in the adoption of new rendering technologies:

  • Integração performed in about a day
  • Immediate Satisfação with visual results
  • Sem per-scene adjustments required
  • Sem optimizations for special cases
  • Funcionamento perfect throughout the game from the start

Disponibilidade and compatibility on other platforms

The updated PSSR will be the default upscaler on PlayStation 5 Pro to 007 First Light at the title’s launch. Jogadores on other platforms will continue to benefit from FSR 3.1.5, which remains the preferred Interactive IO upscaler outside of the PlayStation 5 Pro.

IO Interactive expressed enthusiasm for players to experience 007 First Light with the best possible visual quality on the PS5 Pro. The company has signaled its intention to continue seeking opportunities to further improve image quality as the platform and its tools continue to evolve throughout its commercial lifecycle.
