A new step in the evolution of Apple smartphones takes on more defined contours. The company demonstrates a clear intention to follow its own path in the foldable phone market, distancing itself from already established formats.
Vazamentos recent reports of supposed covers for the highly anticipated foldable iPhone confirm a unique design, signaling the company’s innovative approach to the flexible phone segment. Expectations for its official launch in September, along with the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models, continue to grow, even in the face of pre-production challenges.
Exclusive Design and dual camera
The leaked covers for the foldable iPhone reveal a compact structure with distinct visual characteristics. Essas images, initially released in an iFunSmart post that was later taken down, include an unofficial render that “confirms” the device’s final look. The design reflects previous rumors, featuring an external screen in an unprecedented format, which differs from current market standards.
The device will have a specific circular cutout for the front camera on the external screen, as well as very pronounced edges, giving it a unique visual identity. On the back of the device, the presence of a dual camera is evident, in line with the configurations expected for a premium smartphone. The main screen, intended for use with the iPhone open, appears completely free of visible elements. Nem neither the front camera nor the center fold are apparent in the cover render, although this may be a simplification by the cover manufacturer rather than an accurate representation of the Apple’s final device.
The cover leak suggests important details about the aesthetics of the new device:
- Unreleased external Tela:Formato with circular cutout for front camera.
- Bordas pronounced:A robust and differentiated look.
- Câmera dual rear:Reforça the photographic capacity of the device.
- Clean internal Tela:Ausência of elements visible in the rendering with the device open.
Dobradiça and production challenges
Apple has as one of its goals for this foldable iPhone to ensure that the crease is almost imperceptible. Paralelamente, the hinge needs to withstand an intense opening and closing cycle, necessary for daily use. Essa durability will be achieved through a new hinge system, which is causing complexities for the company during the manufacturing phase of final prototypes.
The hinge is made from an alloy called “liquid metal”, a material known for its high durability over time. Contudo, Apple’s lack of experience with this specific alloy has generated problems in the production testing stage of the final prototype. The company plans to begin mass production in July, following the usual schedule for other iPhone models, but completing the designs takes priority.
Formato differentiated in the market
The foldable iPhone stands out for not following the design of traditional flexible phones. Desde 2018, several foldable book-shaped models were launched, generally characterized by having a standard phone size (about 6.5 to 6.7 inches) when closed and a larger internal screen, similar to a small tablet (about 8 inches).
However, the foldable iPhone will have more compact dimensions, with an external screen of around 5.5 inches, slightly larger than an iPhone 12 mini or 13 mini. The internal screen will reach 7.8 inches, all in a flatter and more distinctive format. Este concept is not entirely new, with the Huawei Pura Samsung is also working on a flexible phone in this style, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, which should be presented before the launch of the iPhone, along with the Galaxy Z Flip8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8.
Lançamento and strategic pricing
Apesar of the challenges in the pre-production phase, the launch of the foldable iPhone was not cancelled, maintaining the target of manufacturing during the summer in the northern hemisphere and presentation in September. A possible occurrence is a delay of a few weeks, a scenario already seen in the history of Apple, as in the case of the iPhone X, announced in September 2017 and only launched in November of that year.
The Apple has the advantage of this device not being aimed at the mass market, unlike other models in the iPhone line. The estimated price, in excess of €2,000, and the innovative format suggest that initial demand will not be excessively high. Isso allows production to be managed in a slower and more controlled manner, minimizing the impacts of possible adjustments to the schedule.
