BYD launched the Performance version of the Shark pickup truck in international markets, starting with the Austrália. Esta new variant meets the demand for more power, replacing the 1.5 turbo engine of the plug-in hybrid set with a more robust 2.0 turbo. The update aims to offer improved performance, directly impacting the vehicle’s towing capacity.
The Shark Performance’s DMO plug-in hybrid package delivers a combined power of 475 hp and 71.3 kgfm of torque. Estes numbers are significantly higher than the 437 hp and 65 kgfm of the version with a 1.5 turbo engine, currently available in the Brasil. The new configuration represents a move by BYD to diversify its portfolio and meet different expectations of global consumers.
Desempenho expanded towing capacity
The main modification of the BYD Shark Performance lies in the engine. The model now features a 245 hp 2.0 turbo gasoline engine, combined with two electric machines, resulting in 475 hp of power and 71.3 kgfm of torque. In contrast, versions with a 1.5 turbo engine deliver 183 hp on gasoline, totaling 437 hp and 65 kgfm of force.
With this increase in numbers, the Performance pickup considerably improves its towing capacity, a previously criticized point. Dados from the factory indicate that the vehicle can tow up to 3,500 kg, in line with the category standard. The other versions with a 1.5 turbo engine tow 2,500 kg. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h also improves, now at 5.5 seconds compared to 5.7 seconds for the standard variants.
- Potência total:475 hp
- Torque total:71.3 kgfm
- Trailer Capacidade:3,500 kg
- Aceleração (0 to 100 km/h):5.5 seconds
Load Capacity Redução
Apesar offers gains in power and towing, the Shark Performance presents a reduction in payload capacity, an aspect already observed in previous versions. The new pickup truck carries just 752 kg. Este value contrasts with the 825 kg of the 1.5 variants in the Australian homologation.
Segundo to BYD, the decrease in load capacity was a consequence of the additional weight of the powertrain, which increased the curb weight from 2,675 kg to 2,738 kg. No Brasil, the BYD Shark carries 790 kg, falling below the more than 1,000 kg offered by the main rivals in the segment. The Fiat Strada, for comparison, carries 720 kg in the single cab versions with a 1.3 naturally aspirated engine.
Novidades internals and maintained structure
Inside, the Shark Performance is distinguished by the absence of the gear lever on the center console. Diferente of the other versions that use a traditional handle, the variant with the 2.0 engine concentrates all the gearshift controls on the steering column. The multimedia center, measuring 15.6 inches, is larger than the 12.8-inch screen offered on the Brazilian market.
Do technical point of view, the structure of the pickup truck remains unchanged. The BYD Shark, in all its versions, continues to be built with a monoblock structure. Além is also equipped with independent suspensions with overlapping arms with coil springs, both at the front and rear, maintaining the robust architecture.
