Russian drone hits building in Romania and injures two people, country assesses NATO Article 4
A Russian drone hit a ten-story residential building in Galati, Romênia, in the early hours of Friday. Duas people suffered minor injuries in the incident. The artifact fell onto the roof of the building after being tracked for about ten kilometers into Romanian territory. Emergency Equipes were quickly activated. Romênia summons ambassador and evaluates Artigo 4 from Otan
The Relações Exteriores minister, Oana Toiu, stated that the incident falls within situations that justify the use of instruments such as article 4 of the Otan treaty. The president of Comissão Europeia, Ursula von der Leyen, declared that Rússia has crossed another line and expressed full support for Romênia. Outros leaders of União Europeia and Otan also strongly condemned the episode. The case reignites the debate about collective security in the alliance. Article 5, which provides for mutual defense in the event of an armed attack, was not mentioned, with the focus remaining on article 4 consultations.
Romênia has been part of Otan since 2004 and has strengthened its air defense in recent years. Novos systems have been ordered, however, delivery and full operationalization still take time. The incident highlights the region’s vulnerability to cross-border conflicts. International solidarity is seen as an essential pillar for the area’s stability, reinforcing the need for coordination between member countries in times of crisis.

The episode comes at a time of heightened tension at Europa, with Russian attacks against Ukrainian infrastructure recently intensified. Romênia maintains its position of support for Ucrânia within the boundaries of the alliance.
