During the Nintendo Direct held this Tuesday (9), Nintendo revealed ambitious plans for the Xenoblade Chronicles series on the Nintendo Switch 2. The three main entries in the franchise will receive specific editions for the new console, with technical improvements and additional content.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is now available in digital format. The physical version arrives soon. The title runs in up to 4K at 60 fps on compatible TVs and Full HD in portable mode.
Among the new features are additional voice acting for the Heart-to-Heart scenes, a high-speed vehicle called the Ether Jet to explore the vast environments more quickly, new racing modes and new equipment. Players who already own the original Switch version can purchase an upgrade pack.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is scheduled for digital release on July 30th, with a physical edition on October 1st. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives on December 3rd, both digitally and physically. The three editions promise sharper visuals, more stable performance and similar additions to the first.
In addition to the improved ports, Nintendo announced Xenoblade Genesis, a new game in the series that marks a “new beginning”. The title will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 and is scheduled for release in 2027. The trailer showed an impressive open world, suggesting a new direction for the franchise developed by Monolith Soft.
These announcements come at a strategic time for Switch 2 owners. They reinforce the console’s catalog of large-scale RPGs and provide the opportunity for new players to join the saga or revisit classic stories with superior quality. The original trilogy explores themes of gods, blades and connected worlds, and the new versions should make these journeys even more accessible
