Casemiro and his wife Anna Mariana Casemiro used Instagram to express strong emotions following the confirmation that the Brazilian midfielder will leave Manchester United at the end of the 2025/26 season.
His four-year spell at Old Trafford comes to an end with his contract expiring in the summer. The farewell, however, proved to be more emotional than many expected, especially after a final stretch of the season in which the player recovered his good performance.
Emotional goodbyes on networks
Anna Mariana published a message shortly after Casemiro’s last home match at Old Trafford in May. She spoke of sadness at the departure, but also of gratitude to the fans who supported the family throughout their time in Manchester.
The wife also revealed that she cried during the game when the fans sang songs asking the Brazilian to stay another year. The tone was the closing of a special cycle.
Casemiro adopted a similar line on his own networks. He made it clear that it was time to move on, but with eternal affection for the club. “I will be a Red Devil for the rest of my life,” he wrote.
Arrival of star to difficult new beginning
When he arrived from Real Madrid in August 2022, Casemiro brought to Old Trafford the prestige of a player with multiple Champions League titles. Expectations were high and, to a large extent, they were met in the first few years.
The 2023/24 season was more complicated. The Brazilian appeared to have lost some speed, which fueled debates about whether he was past his prime. However, improved performances in the final months helped to win back part of the fans, who began to openly defend their permanence.
Despite this, no renewal proposal was presented by Manchester United, who chose to target a younger squad in midfield.
Next chapter in the United States
Having turned 34 at the start of next season, Casemiro is expected to head to MLS side Inter Miami. The transfer, as a free agent, would allow him to prolong his career in an expanding league, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi.
