Deportivo Alavés announced this Wednesday the departure of goalkeeper Raúl Fernández at the end of the 2025/26 season. The 38-year-old veteran, born in Bilbao, arrived at the Basque club in July 2025 from Mirandés and ends his spell without renewal.
Raúl Fernández played mainly as an option on the bench or in secondary competitions. In La Liga, he did not record official minutes, while in the Copa del Rey he entered the field on five occasions, contributing with experience in moments of squad rotation.
The Victorian club issued an official statement thanking the “work, commitment and professionality” shown by the player during the season. The entity also wished success in upcoming personal and professional challenges.
Born on March 13, 1988, Raúl Fernández has a vast career in Spanish football. He played for clubs such as Athletic Bilbao, Levante, Las Palmas, Granada and Mirandés, where in the previous season he played 46 games and was close to reaching the elite. His arrival at Alavés represented the search for a name with a reputation to give security to the sector.
At 38 years old, the 1.95m goalkeeper leaves Mendizorroza with his contract ending on June 30, 2026. On the market, veterans with his profile usually attract interest from Second Division teams or even La Liga itself in search of depth in the squad.
The departure adds to other moves at Alavés, which plans to reformulate the squad for next season. The Basque club remains focused on assembling the team that will compete in another edition of La Liga.
