Actress Luana Piovani, 49, declared this Thursday (11) that she will not watch any game at the 2026 World Cup. In a series of stories on Instagram, she stated that the tournament is marked by serious problems and questioned FIFA’s stance on the policies of the American government.
Piovani linked his decision directly to the controversies involving President Donald Trump and the organization of the event, which is hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. “The world is ending and you are worried about the World Cup,” said the actress.
She harshly criticized FIFA, calling it “such a shitty institution” and accusing it of submitting to the Trump administration’s demands. The actress questioned how participating countries accept to participate amid difficulties created for some delegations, especially related to visas and entry into the United States.
Problems accumulated before the ball rolled
The 2026 World Cup, the first with 48 teams, is already facing questions about ticket sales, high prices and immigration restrictions. Recent reports point to significant cancellations of tickets and complaints from federations about obstacles for fans from countries such as Iran.
Trump even publicly commented on ticket prices, saying that not even he would pay certain prices. At the same time, FIFA’s proximity to the American president generated debates about the entity’s political neutrality.
Piovani expanded the criticism by arguing that countries should unite against the conditions imposed. “There had to be everyone’s unity”, he stated, lamenting the lack of international solidarity.
“I’m very shocked”
The actress said she felt relieved to be “alone at home in silence” during the tournament, but reinforced her shock at the situation. She also mentioned the internal problems of the Brazilian team, but emphasized that her opposition goes beyond that.
“This World Cup is already a failure in terms of ticket sales and visitors”, added Luana, citing what she considers to be a championship full of difficulties from the beginning.
