The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a storm warning for parts of Baden-Württemberg, with the Ludwigsburg region likely to be affected by isolated showers and thunderstorms. However, the DWD does not currently forecast severe weather conditions for the district, which will maintain an unstable weather situation this Wednesday (10) night.

Storm advances north of the district

The main storm is moving from the Karlsruhe region towards Bretten, according to DWD meteorologist Marco Puckert. This storm cell tracks west to east and is expected to pass north of Ludwigsburg. However, Puckert stressed that a direct impact cannot be completely ruled out, as “other rain showers also pass through the region and could affect Ludwigsburg.”

Difference between alert and general warning

It is important to note that the current warning from DWD classifies as a general weather warning, not a severe weather warning. This means that although heavy rain and lightning are possible in some areas, extreme weather conditions capable of causing significant damage or exceptional amounts of rain are not expected. This distinction is crucial to understanding the level of precaution necessary on the part of citizens.

Forecast with uncertainty

The accuracy of the forecast regarding the storm’s impact on the region remains uncertain, according to the German Weather Service. Puckert explained that “it is quite possible that the storm will lose strength as it reaches the Ludwigsburg area,” but an accurate forecast cannot be made at this time.

Expected rainfall volumes

The DWD also commented on rainfall volumes, indicating that, despite the possibility of showers on Wednesday night and early morning, levels will be below the limit for severe weather conditions. The forecast is around five to ten liters per square meter, reaching a maximum of 15 liters in some specific areas. In other regions of Baden-Württemberg, significantly less or even no rain is expected.

Calm on Thursday

The possibility of isolated storms during the night is not ruled out, according to the meteorologist. However, the German Meteorological Service does not foresee a dangerous weather situation in general, stating that “these are not severe storms” and that there is no expectation of a “catastrophe”. The weather is expected to gradually calm down overnight, with a significantly quieter Thursday.
