Court decides to keep former striker Jô arrested in Belo Horizonte due to child support debt after hearing
Former striker Jô had his arrest confirmed by the courts last Monday morning (15), in Belo Horizonte. The decision came after a custody hearing, keeping the player in prison due to non-payment of child support.

Judicial procedure that confirmed Jô’s arrest
The arrest warrant against Jô had been issued by a different district. For this reason, the athlete was only subjected to a formal presentation to the judge in Belo Horizonte during the hearing. The local magistrate did not have the necessary authority to overturn the original arrest order.
From now on, the case files will be sent to the Itaquera region, in São Paulo. There, the judge in charge of the 3rd Family and Succession Court of the Itaquera Regional Court, who issued the initial arrest warrant, will determine the next stages of the case.

In an official statement, the player Jô’s advisors declared that the former striker is facing a phase of “severe financial instability”, highlighting that this situation is public knowledge.
Jô’s record includes other previous arrests related to pension debts. The last recorded occurrence was in November of the previous year, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, the former player was arrested once in 2025 and twice in 2024, highlighting a recurring pattern of the same problem.
At 39 years old, the former striker built a remarkable career, playing for prominent clubs such as Corinthians, Atlético-MG, Manchester City and CSKA Moscow. Jô also had the honor of playing for the Brazilian team, including participating in the 2014 World Cup.
