The technology giant may have unintentionally disclosed crucial details about future products that have not yet been presented to the public. Information discovered in the first beta editions of the iOS 27 and macOS 27 operating systems suggests that the Cupertino company is already preparing the ground to launch an iPhone with folding capabilities and a MacBook equipped with a touch screen.

These important revelations were brought to light by respected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman after a meticulous analysis of recent platforms presented during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). For Gurman, the code snippets and modifications identified constitute the most substantial evidence so far about the existence of these devices, directly extracted from Apple’s own software.

Evidence indicating the development of the long-awaited foldable iPhone

One of the main indicators of the arrival of a possible foldable iPhone emerges in the iPhone Mirroring application, native to macOS 27. The tool has undergone a series of improvements that allow it to expand its interface to adapt to formats similar to those found on the iPad, a feature that aligns perfectly with the internal screen of a foldable smartphone when it is open.

Other important traces come directly from the iOS 27 source code. Among the mentions found, terms such as “foldState”, “angleDegrees” and references to multiple hardware displays stand out, elements that could be used to determine the device’s opening level and adjust the user interface according to the position of its hinge.

In addition to the various technical references, Gurman highlights a specific guideline strengthened by Apple during this year’s WWDC. The company encouraged its developers to adopt a philosophy of adaptability in their applications, ensuring that the same software operates optimally across a wide range of screen formats and sizes.

Although this guidance is also beneficial for devices already on the market, it takes on a deeper meaning when coupled with persistent rumors about the foldable iPhone. A device with this configuration would require much more complex adaptations in the way applications fit and occupy the available space on the screen.

macOS 27 system details hint at a touchscreen MacBook

The latest macOS 27 also introduced new features that reinforce speculation about the eventuality of a MacBook with a touch screen. One of these innovations is linked to Sidecar, a feature that makes it possible to transform an iPad into a secondary screen for the Mac, expanding the interaction possibilities.

The recent update significantly expands support for touch interactions within the operating system itself, a notable evolution. Although this change can be interpreted as a natural advancement of Sidecar’s functionality, some industry experts believe that it represents a strategic preparation for the launch of notebooks with native support for touch commands, marking a potential break in Apple’s tradition, which has historically resisted integrating touch screens into its laptops.

Another relevant detail observed is the inclusion of drag-down refresh gestures, popularly known as “pull-to-refresh”. This mode of interaction has become extremely common and popular on smartphones and tablets, but is rarely seen on systems that are designed to be operated exclusively with a keyboard, mouse and trackpad, highlighting a possible transition.

Gurman also mentions the renewed search interface for the Siri virtual assistant in the Mac environment. The visual element adopted a format that resembles a capsule, similar to the Dynamic Island design present in the most recent iPhone models. In the journalist’s view, this solution could work organically and intuitively on a MacBook that was equipped with a touch screen.

To date, none of the evidence found offers official confirmation of the existence of these innovative products. However, the combination of references located in operating system codes, changes to the user interface and explicit guidelines provided by Apple itself considerably strengthen rumors that the technology company is preparing to introduce one of the biggest and most impactful transformations to its line of devices over the next few years.
